Moraine Lake
Moraine Lake is a world-renowned, glacier-fed lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, famous for its intense, vivid turquoise color caused by suspended rock flour. Located in the Valley of the Ten Peaks at 1,884 meters, it offers stunning, mirror-like reflections of surrounding snow-capped peaks. Color & Geology: The water’s, deep blue/teal color appears due to sunlight refracting off fine rock particles carried into the lake by surrounding glaciers. Location & Access: Situated 14 km (8.7 miles) from Lake Louise village, the road is closed to personal vehicles, requiring visitors to use Parks Canada shuttles, Roam Public Transit, or commercial transport from late June to early October. The Rockpile: A popular, short trail leads to a viewpoint atop a glacial moraine, offering the iconic postcard view of the lake. Activities: Key activities include canoeing, hiking the lakeshore. Timing: The lake is at its most beautiful, reaching maximum depth and color, during mid-to-late summer.

Awful Experience
Bus came over 30 minutes late - no notification. We all were wondering if there was any bus coming at all. No apology, driver thought lateness was funny and laughed it off. Had much less than the stated time of 90 minutes at the two locations, with only an hour at Morraine Lake. Seats were dirty with even dead bugs on them, very uncomfortable ride. No guided tour or narration of any kind which we paid for. We were on the “Banff Explorer” school bus.

Shuttle service
In last hours my trips was almost canceled because of pick up bus service did not come on time and called for new service but Viator told me that they will reimburse. I was so disappointed. Last hours bus showed around 8:50, drivers looks new. Vehicle was not in good conditions as well but he picked up and dropped.

How far in advance should I book Moraine Lake and Lake Louise Shuttle Service from Banff?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. +
On Outty we rank every Banff experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and the Icefields Parkway Full-Day Tour, Hop-On and Hop-Off Banff Bus, ShuttleBus 2way Banff to Lake Louise (1Hr) and Moraine Lake (1Hr). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Banff?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Banff?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
