This beautiful windmill is one of only 2 left in Montmartre and specialized in grinding wheat. It has also been a restaurant for a long time. Famous artists like Renoir, Van Gogh, and Pissaro frequented this restaurant and painted it, turning it into an icon of Montmartre. Renoir's Bal au Moulin de la Galette doesn't show the windmill, only the party that takes place behind this famous facade. Van Gogh painted several versions of this windmill because his brother Theo lived nearby and he knew the area well.

The second pink house where it says "Maison Rose" was made famous by a local painter named Utrillo, making it one of the most iconic scenes of Montmartre. Then it was bought by someone who was friends with famous singers and so they often patronized it. Singers like Edith Piaf, Aznavour and Jacques Brel came here frequently. Before them author Albert Camus was also a fan.

The Lapin Agile first opened as a cabaret and drinking establishment in 1795. At first it was named "Rendez-vous of Thieves", then "Cabaret of the Assassins" before caricaturist André Gill was commissioned to create a new look for the place in 1880 and he came up with the rabbit drawing.

Montmartre with Historical Context
Fabulous tour of Montmartre! Annie’s tour will take you to the well known spots and the hidden gems. It was such a great way to explore the neighborhood for the first time. The stories and historical context were both informative and entertaining. If we hadn't done this tour, we would have missed out on a lot of interesting history. You will love listening to Annie, her voice is a pleasure to listen to. My husband and I shared a pair of earbuds and listened through my iPhone. Very easy to follow along, and you can pause the audio whenever you need to. Directions are easy to follow. I cannot recommend this tour enough!! We loved it.

Montmartre with Annie in your ear
This is a terrific way to see Montmartre and have the pleasure of Annie in our ear guiding us through those amazing sites. She is very clear in her directions, informative, knowledgeable and a pleasure to listen to. The start point was easy to locate and each point of interest flowed from site to site. We set the pace, were able to rewind or stop the audio feed if necessary and the built in gps kept us on track. Sharing a set of earbuds, my husband and I were able to listen to the commentary together. It felt like a private tour. Thank you Annie. Your audio guide, Montmartre is 5/5 and highly recommended.
