    Loved the monkeys most!

Had an excellent time! Got to see the adorable squirrel monkeys as well as parrots, turtles, and guinea pigs. Also got to sample coffee and hot chocolate. The guides were very personable and friendly. Would highly recommend!

While the monkeys were the highlight, there was even more to this experience, and it was great!

My family, along with some friends, visited Puerto Plata during an MSC Ocean cruise. Our travel agent booked Ismael Tours and this was one of our stops. If you are animal lovers, like us, and enjoy being outdoors in different locations, then I would highly recommend this Monkey Experience, which is more than just seeing those wonderful little fellows run, scurry, and jump about in their compound. We were first greeted by our team of tour guides. I believe the lead guide was a young man named Shelby, and of his co-workers was named Shander. I really wanted to get their names right because they were wonderful guides, warm, friendly, intelligent, and attentive. We were first taken to a little section in their reserve that had benches and different tools to use with their famous Caco bean, which this island is known to have in large supply. We were treated to our choice of hot cocoa or hot coffee. Both were delicious. The temperature was warm, but not crazy, and there always seemed to be a slight breeze in the shady area. After our liquid treat, we walked though a nice garden of native plants and trees and Shander talked about each type of plant/tree, educating us on their history with the Dominican Republic's people. The highlight for me was the mango tree. We then went to the Monkey compound. My kids loved this and we ordered photos from this experience. My kids loved that we enlarged them and hung some up. The monkeys were really chill, and we felt completely safe the entire time. You could tell they were used to having humans come around, and would playfully jump on your back, lap or head, trying to get some food. There were so small and cute. After the Monkey area, we went to the gift shop and they had a nice selection of items made with the native precious stone called Larimar, which is a light blue stone. They also had Opals, and lots of other jewelry, collectibles, and snacks in the little shop. Everyone was very kind and accommodating at this venue. It was an experience that will be a fond memory the family and I will look back on. I think younger kids would really enjoy it, because of the close interaction with the monkeys and the hot cocoa. Given our great tour bus, the drive through the countryside to get to this place, was enjoyable and freeing. Thank you, gentleman!

    Best Excursion!!

The monkey experience was fabulous. The guide was amazing, we had plenty of time to interact with the monkeys. These are squirrel monkeys - the absolute cutest. The driver who took us (Remy) was great too. Very polite. Took us to the sights and gave us some good information. The car was clean and air conditioned. I would highly recommend this excursion.

    The highlight of our trip!

This tour was great from start to finish. Our awesome driver Alex, was waiting for us with a sign when we exited the port at Amber Cove. The van was clean, cool and in great condition. Alex was the best! He was patient and took us to all the places we wanted to go, starting with the Monkey Home where we had plenty of time to interact with the monkeys! All of the guys at the Monkey Home were fun, informative and went above and beyond to make sure each person had plenty of interaction time with the monkeys. We then got to watch a cigar rolling demonstration, sample amazing hot cocoa, coffee, and the traditional dominican Mama Juana spiced wine. They have a nice little shop for souvenirs, and you can also buy the professional pics they took of you with the monkeys (very reasonably priced). Then we were off for the city tour where we parked and walked a short distance to all of the local landmarks. Alex helped my friend find the right shop to buy a specific ring she was looking for. I 100% recommend this tour!

Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Plata.

How much does Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Plata usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Plata is not rushed.

Is Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Plata, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Plata can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Plata and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Monkey Paradise Experience and Puerto Plata City Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Plata within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Puerto Plata?

    +

On Outty we rank every Puerto Plata experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Monkeyland and Zipline Adventure from Puerto Plata, Monkeyland Puerto Plata, Puerto Plata Highlights City Tours from amber cove and Taino bay. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Puerto Plata?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Puerto Plata?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
