This is an all-day tour....
This is an all-day tour. I was picked up from my hotel at 8 AM and got back to the dock in Iquitos at 4:30pm. The tour guides were helpful and friendly. We had a very packed itinerary. After we left the port, we stopped on the river and went piranha fishing for about an hour, then we headed to Monkey Island, which to me was the highlight of the trip. After that, we visited an indigenous community, had lunch, and then visited two more animal sanctuaries. I personally could’ve skipped the visit to the Indigenous community, it mainly seemed like an opportunity for them to sell their handicrafts and trinkets, but I read that it’s how they sustain themselves, so I suppose I shouldn’t complain too much. Personal preference. Mackey Island was amazing, and I wish we could’ve spent more time there. I also enjoyed Fundo Pedrito to see the more dangerous and exotic creatures. This tour is certainly worth the price of admission, but be prepared for a long day. And if you’re an animal rights person, you may want to do some research of your own. Monkey Island has a great reputation, but apparently there are many places other places around Iquitos masquerading as rescue centers but in truth are zoos.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review! We’re happy you enjoyed the day, found our guides friendly and helpful, and especially loved Monkey Island. We appreciate your feedback about the busy itinerary and your wish to spend more time with the monkeys. Your comments help us understand where the experience could feel more relaxed. The community visit offers an opportunity to learn about local culture, and purchasing handmade crafts helps support local families. Still, we understand that you would have preferred a stronger cultural focus. We also take your concerns about animal welfare seriously. There is an important distinction between rescue centers and other wildlife attractions, and we appreciate your reminder that these differences should be clearly communicated. Thank you for exploring the Amazon with Iquitos Experience Tours and for sharing both the highlights and the areas where we can improve.

Five Stars Across the Board
Truly amazing experience- start to finish. Proactive and detailed communication that started several days before the trip (via WhatsApp). Transportation to/ from hotel on time and super nice. The excursion itself was wonderful. Beautiful scenery, lots of interesting information, guides that were extremely warm and fun. The food was AMAZING! I am so happy I came on this trip. It was truly the highlight of my nine days in Peru.

Unique fun filled experience
It was more than I was expecting. Monkey island was so informative and it was so nice to just watch all the monkeys in a somewhat natural habitat and not in a cage. All the other activities were great as well but monkey island was my favorite part!

Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Iquitos.
How much does Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset cost?
+
Prices start at $135 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Iquitos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Iquitos is not rushed.
Is Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 66 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Iquitos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset?
+
Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Iquitos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Iquitos and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Monkey Island, Amazon River, Amazonian Sunset start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Iquitos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Iquitos?
+
On Outty we rank every Iquitos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pacaya Samiria Mystical 3 Days, 4 days 3 nights on the banks of the Amazon River, Amazing Jungle 3Days 2Nights - Amazon Wonder Expeditions. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Iquitos?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Iquitos?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
