    Best Mochi Class

Satoko San is one of the sweetest teachers to learn how to make mochi with. She is very knowledgeable with the culture and history of mochi making, and you can she is very passionate about it. The class itself was so incredibly fun and joyful, and I can honestly say it was one of the top experiences I had in Japan. You make lots and eats lots. 10/10 for everything, I would recommend to all my friends!!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for such a wonderful review!! I’m truly happy to hear that the class was one of your top experiences in Japan and that you enjoyed both making and eating lots of mochi! It means a lot to me that you felt the joy and passion behind the lesson. Thank you for the kind recommendation, and I hope we can meet again someday in another wagashi class!

10/10 — would happily do it again.

This was my first activity in Tokyo, and honestly? Such a perfect way to start the trip. Satoko san was an incredible teacher. Kind, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about what she does. She didn’t just show us how to make mochi; she walked us through the history, the traditions, and why mochi holds such an important place in Japanese culture. The experience felt personal, relaxed, and deeply cultural, not rushed or touristy. You leave not only with delicious mochi in your belly, but with a real appreciation for the craft and its meaning. If you’re planning a trip to Japan, I highly recommend adding a mochi-making class to your itinerary. It’s hands-on, meaningful, and a beautiful introduction to Japan.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. I’m truly happy that this experience became such a special start to your time in Tokyo. It means a lot to me that you felt it was more than just a mochi-making class, and that you were able to connect with Japanese culture, traditions, and the deeper meaning behind mochi. That is exactly what I hope to share through my lessons, so I’m genuinely honored that it came through. Thank you again for spending your time with me during your trip. I hope our class remains a warm memory from your journey, and I would be delighted to welcome you back to another Wagashi lesson next time!

A wonderful host and a really enjoyable experience

Satoko was a brilliant host. She gave us an overview of mochi; the different types, how they are made, and woven into Japanese celebrations - which was really interesting. She had perfect english which made it very easy to chat, while we tried out different ways of making mochi and obviously tasting it all at the end. We had our class in Satoko’s home, which made it really special. A real highlight of our 4 week trip to Japan.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It truly means a lot to hear that the mochi lesson became a highlight of your long trip to Japan. I really enjoyed welcoming you into my home and sharing not only the techniques, but also the cultural stories behind mochi. I’m glad we could chat comfortably and have fun making (and tasting!) everything together. If you visit Japan again, I would be very happy to welcome you back for another wagashi experience. Thank you once again for spending your time with me!

Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Tokyo.

How much does Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo cost?

    +

Prices start at $8500 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tokyo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Tokyo is not rushed.

Is Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tokyo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo?

    +

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tokyo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tokyo and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Mochi Sweets Making Class in Tokyo start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Tokyo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Tokyo?

    +

Tokyo is less a city than a stack of neighborhoods with completely different opening hours. A guided food crawl through Shinjuku's Omoide Yokocho gets you past the no-tourist curtains, while the day trips west to Hakone and Fuji need an early start to be worth the fare. Our ranking weighs guide quality heavily here, because in Tokyo the guide is the product. On Outty we rank every Tokyo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Tokyo Shinjuku Chopsticks Making Class, Tokyo : Asakusa Chopsticks Making Class, Shinjuku Night Food and Bar Crawl. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tokyo?

    +

Late March to May for blossom, October to November for clear Fuji views. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tokyo?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
