Day trip of a lifetime! Go!!!!
This trip is a MUST GO! We met Will (Will.I.am) the beach near the Tamarindo Diria. He hooked us up with the best tours and prices anywhere. This trip was my very favorite! We started the day picked up at our hotel by Henry (who owns Perez-oso tours, but works closely with side-by-side tours and the owner, Leo). We stopped for a break at El Jardin where you can get yourself breakfast, snacks or souvenirs (as well as a pee break). The place is clean and great for a stop. Then it was on to the mountains and waterfalls. We spent as much time as we wanted frolicking in the water before heading up to the next stop—horseback riding in the rainforest! After a fun jaunt up, you are dropped off for a hike through nature and suspension bridges (which are exhilarating!) where you can see more waterfalls and beauty. Afterwards, you stop for lunch (delicious and filling with a choice of tilapia, pork chop or chicken—the chicken was my favorite) . Then you enjoy exploring the sulphur springs on the side of an active volcano! Pop into the cave sauna for a few minutes, then go down to the warm-hot mud pits, where you can slather yourself in volcanic mud (that smells and feels like poo, but it’s still so fun). Let it dry and then shower off under the stone sculptures (a giggling about them and their rather generous architecture). Then you relax in the series of pools. The first one is the temperature of a regular hot tub, the middle is more like warm bath water temperature and the third is ice cold, designed to close the pores. Don’t miss out on the water slide! It’s right on-site, and worth the short trek up the hill to experience it!!! Henry and Larissa, our guides, made the trip! We never felt rushed and they were knowledgeable, friendly and so much fun!!

Great Company
The tour guide, Juan Carlos was so knowledgeable and friendly! Driver Steven was the best and he and Juan made a great pair! Both were considerate of the guest's safety and enjoyment. Juan offered information not only about the sites included in the tour but of CR in general. The wildlife was incredible, and Walter at the Rainforest was an extra bonus! He was so thoughtful in helping me get excellent photos. Loved every minute of it! We booked 2 other excursions with this company, and all were positive! JJ, the representative at our resort was also so very helpful in helping us choose the best excursions with no pressure to purchase. All the excursions were exactly (or better) than described! JJ was also so helpful in navigating our trip in general. Good people!

Disappointing - Not as promised
Lunch at the Restaurant at the volcano site was the highlight of the day - thus the three star review. Otherwise, would be a 2. We were told by Leo, that the tour included breakfast - when we arrived at 7:30 am, they were clearly not expecting us, so we had to move on to the river tour, which set us back at least 90 minutes, and made breakfast pretty late. Pretty hungry by then! There was not enough food for our group of 10 when we returned, although the van driver and the tour guide ate very well. Leo promised us a cooler with ice so that we could have a beverage along the way, but this did not happen. The tour was supposed to be about a 2 hour drive there and two hours back - again very misleading as it was closer to 3 hours each way. Our tour was supposed to include a waterfall stop, with an opportunity to swim - also did not happen. Our promised tour guide was sick (unavoidable) and the replacement guide, although friendly, spent most of the day conversing in Spanish with the driver. The river cruise lasted only abut 30 minutes, as opposed to an hour, as we had to return for breakfast so this was cut short. Saw a couple of herons, birds in the distance, couple of crocs and a monkey swung by. Likely would have seen more, had the cruise been longer. Once we made it to the volcano, we did a short tour and as mentioned, lunch at the Volcano Restaurant was amazing. It was a long, bumpy ride back.

Great trip with a small group. Juan Carlos was a terrific naturalist with an encyclopedia of knowledge. We did 3 tours and they were all great.

Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Liberia.
How much does Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $170 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Liberia usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Liberia is not rushed.
Is Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Liberia, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Liberia can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Liberia and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Miravalles Volcano Combo Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Liberia within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Liberia?
+
On Outty we rank every Liberia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Adventure in Volcano Combo Tour! - Zip Line, Waterfall, Hot Springs and More, Sloth Watching, Coffee, Chocolate & Waterfall from Guanacaste, Costa Rica Guanacaste Airport ( LIR )Private Arrival Transfer. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Liberia?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Liberia?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
