What you'll see and do

Linlithgow Palace is one of Scotland’s most impressive royal ruins, located in the town of Linlithgow, roughly halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow. Set beside a peaceful loch, the palace offers a dramatic glimpse into Scotland’s royal past. I will give you a full exterior guided tour relating to the History of the Castle and of course, the story of Mary Queen of Scots and the Stewart Dynasty.

This is a great way to get the most out of your Mini Highlands tour.

Killin
Lunch in Killin. This is one of the most overlooked places in Scotland and in my opinion this is sheer ignorance from tour operators in order to make life easy for themselves. Experience the magnificent falls of Dochart, and allow me to walk you around the village to the sound of white noise - from the Rivers that fast flow throughout surrounded by mountains. Allow me to tell you the story of Saint Fillan who preached Christianity in Killin and we will also visit the Woollen Mill where there is a small museum dedicated to Saint Fillan and the history of the village.
90 minutes here
Glen Lyon
Glen Lyon is a long, scenic glen which stretches for about 34 miles making it one of the longest and most beautiful glens in Scotland. The River Lyon runs through it, surrounded by mountains, moorland, and ancient woodlands. This glen is described as “Scotland’s longest, loneliest and loveliest glen.” Rich in history and folklore, with ancient forts, stone circles, and early Christian sites and is less crowded than places like Glencoe, offering a peaceful Highland experience.

The Fortingall Yew is one of the oldest known trees in Europe and possibly the oldest tree in the UK. It is estimated to be around 5000 years old and lies in a beautiful ancient kirk yard.

The Hermitage
The Hermitage is a beautiful woodland and riverside walk near Dunkeld in Scotland. It’s one of the most scenic short walks in the country and is especially famous for its dramatic waterfall and towering Douglas fir trees. What You’ll See Black Linn Falls – A powerful waterfall on the River Braan. Ossian’s Hall – A small 18th-century folly overlooking the falls, built to impress visitors. Giant Douglas firs – Some of the tallest trees in Britain. Peaceful forest trails with wildlife like red squirrels and salmon (in season). The site was created in the 1700s by the Dukes of Atholl as part of a landscaped pleasure ground designed to amaze guests. The hall is named after the legendary Gaelic poet Ossian.

Scotland - amazing country with an amazing guide / driver
We hired Andy for a week to explore Scotland and our entire trip was simply amazing . As our driver / tour guide , Andy was prompt , showed us the major spots and not only that , some hidden gems along the way , he’s flexible with our schedule and itineraries especially with the weather in Scotland, considerate to our speed in walking 🚶 ( he’s a mountain climber by the way) readily offers help with our luggages and keep his van clean and comfortable all the time . He articulates well the history in the area in his Scottish accent and he greeted us the first day already in his Kilts! He claims he looks good on it and me and my husband couldn’t agree more . Me and my husband travelled a lot and we prefer private tour and guide if possible and having Andy as our guide/ driver made our trip to Scotland as what we have hoped for and more. Highly recommend Andy and his company.

Great day of beautiful scenery and history
Had a great day with Blair showing us the sights. He knew the best locations to have the best view of the castles to tell us the history of each. Loved the scenery of the Highlands and the Lochs. Seeing the Highland cows and the Kelpies was a highlight as well. Great lunch at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel. He was able to adjust the tour to our specific interests and questions. Would recommend Blair and the tour for anyone who wants to see the highlights of the Highlands.

The Road Less Traveled
Private tours are often worth it, but Andy took the experience up a notch. He was personable and knowledgeable about the area and homeland he loves. We were able to experience sites off the beaten path because of Andy's extensive experience as a regular back country hiker and mountain climber. Because it was a private tour, we could opt to make changes based on weather and personal interest. Another added bonus is how much we laughed hearing and telling stories. Catherine_G July 2026

Best time ever ❤️🏴 We loved Andy
We had the best time in Scotland 🏴 thanks to Andy from Caley Pines Tours. Andy was full of knowledge, friendly & great fun. Our main reason for the tour was to visit the home towns that my parents & grandparents were from. We gave Andy this information & he planned the rest for us around that. We still cannot believe how much we got to see & do in such a short time. Andy made our trip to Scotland the best experience we could have wished for, better than we could have imagined. We got picked up by Andy in his kilt and all, Car was super comfortable, driving skills were superb and he was easy to understand (husband could even understand him & he struggles understanding my Scottish dad 🤣) Absolutely loved our time in Scotland with thanks Andy. Memories we will hold close to our hearts forever ❤️

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.
How much does Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens cost?
+
Prices start at $1,022 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.
Is Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?
+
On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Edinburgh?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens?
+
Included: Carbonated beverages; Bottled water; Alcoholic beverages; and Snacks. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
Does Mini Highlands Tour: Discover Castles, Lochs and Mountain Glens include hotel pickup?

+
