A highlight of our CDMX trip
You should not miss out on this experience. Gabriel is incredibly personable and knowledgable. His first hand knowledge of the markets and its vendors makes this an experience you can't replicate on your own. Bring your appetite, because, as value for money goes, you definitely get your fill, and more. The 4-hour span of the tour goes by in a flash and is not physically demanding. I'd recommend this tour for solo travelers and couples/small friend groups. This was, without a doubt, one of the highlights of our CDMX trip.

Fantastic Tour for Foodies!
Totally amazing food and market tour! We both definitely expanded our Mexican food knowledge and learned about the food culture through this tour. We tried so many new flavors and dishes and even insects! Gabriel's professionalism was well noted and the little touches like having wet wipes, hand sanitizer and kleenex for the bathrooms was right on target....haha! We even met Gabriel's father who had a food stall in the market. If you want a true local experience, take this tour with CDMX Memories!

Enjoyed ourselves thoroughly
Gabriel: knew the local environment and gave unvarnished facts about the areas we walked through. We ate some very new foods and found some that will be our favourites for years to come. Gabriel is a pro in all aspects. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The best tour in Mexico City if you want to witness local life.
Undoubtedly the best tour we’ve had in Mexico City. The highlights were well thought out, and was a complete cultural immersion into local life in Mexico City. Tiffany was fantastic. She is extremely knowledgeable, and a delightful guide. She really took care of us and made sure we enjoyed ourselves. I really hope she and CDMX Memories does well, because I want to take this tour again the next time we’re in Mexico City.

Brilliant tour - recommend a private
One of the best food tours we have done. The tour operator grew up in the market and knows how to navigate it really well, and tailor to your desires (want a pound of oregano powder? A pound of mole powder? Sacrifice a chicken to cast a spell on someone? eat a creamy fried cockroach? Fresh blue corn tortillas that are impossibly delicious with a red salsa deeper than anything in New York?). Brilliant 4 hours and would recommend booking a private tour, and buying a few KG of fresh mole powder (what we ended up doing).

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition cost?
+
Prices start at $83 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 45 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Mexico City Mystic Markets La Merced & Sonora Food tour Tradition start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Teotihuacan 3 Pyramids Tour + Hotel Pick Up + Lunch at La Gruta, Historic Center Essentials: Mexico City Downtown Walking Tour, PREMIUM Frida Kahlo Museum and Xochimilco (Small Groups). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
