What you get

    About this experience

Among the mountains of Pindos and Antichasia rise the rocks of Meteora, the most important monastic city after Mount Athos. It seems that the first hermits settled at the cavities of the rocks during the 11th-12th century seeking spiritual redemption. Here, a lot of people continue to come looking for spiritual calm and peace. The impressive landscape creates awe to the visitors, while thanks to its unique character Meteora is included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

    2. Meteora

The gigantic rocks of Meteora are perched above the town of Kalambaka, at a maximum height of 400 m (1200 ft). The most interesting summits are decorated with historical monasteries, included in the World Heritage List of Unesco. Only 6 of them have made it through the centuries, from an initial estimated number of 24. Mostly dating to the 14th and until the 16th century, these monasteries were built by monks who were previously hermits in the area, living in individual caves. Once united, these monks took months and years to carry the construction material to the top of rocks, using ropes, folding ladders, nets and baskets, and with much determination. They then proceeded to build monasteries that deserve everybody’s awe. The monasteries had no access to electricity and water until recently and the monks and nuns have been long trained in obtaining efficiency. Visit the monasteries, even if your interests are not deeply religious. It is the only way to enrich your feelings of spirituality that this area already exudes, no matter how long or brief your sojourn in our beautiful land.

    Great trip

While it’s quite a bit of travelling it’s broken up between the ferry and the driving , great seeing different parts of the Greek countryside …….and then the destination is well worth the trip , truly unique . And Leo our driver was fantastic

    Amazing trip. Long day...

Amazing trip. Long day though as it involved a ferry ride and long road trip but so totally worth it as the area was just beautiful! Thank you to Leo for being a great driver and guide throughout the day. You also have to be relatively fit to climb a few flights of stairs both up and down.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you found the scenery breathtaking and felt the long day—ferry ride and road travel included—was “totally worth it.” Leo will be thrilled to know you appreciated his driving skills and knowledgeable guidance throughout the day.

Private tour wit Pachis travel great value for money

Fantastic day out. You have to see meteora once in your lifetime. Our guide was the owner of Pachis travel and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience with him. My husband and I are over 65 and fairly unfit. However we managed to do 380 steps to the Santa Barbara monastery and 572 to the great meteora. A spectacular and memorable day out

    A stunning site

Spectacular sites to visit. Great experience with the guide although it was a long day. It doesn't seem a better way to get to Meteora. This is a full day trip.

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Corfu?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Corfu?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
