    Unforgettable tour

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. In June 2024, Alex spent almost three weeks with us, driving and guiding us from Zagreb through Lake Bled in Slovenia to northern Croatia, along the coast, and through Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro to Albania. The planning was straightforward, and communication was very easy. Alex was interested in our preferences, and the entire trip was perfectly tailored to our wishes and superbly organized. In cities and at special sights, he additionally booked local guides for us. Afterward, he always followed up to make sure we were satisfied and if he could book these guides for future guests as well. Alex himself always went to great lengths to show us the most beautiful corners of his beloved country. His dedication and enthusiasm were contagious. At the same time, he was always discreet and never intrusive. Nothing was too much trouble for him. It was a true pleasure to have him as our guide; he made our trip unforgettable. We travel a lot and have had many good guides, but Alex is truly special. He absolutely couldn't have done it better, and we have so many wonderful memories. We can wholeheartedly recommend BLKN.

Response from the operator: Hi Lucia, Thank you so much for this wonderful review. It truly means a lot to me. It was a real pleasure traveling with you and Rudi on your **private tailor-made tour of Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Montenegro**, with our part of the journey ending in **Shkoder, Albania**. I’m very happy to hear that the trip felt perfectly planned around your wishes and that the whole experience was smooth, personal, and memorable. Our goal is to create seamless tailor made tour experience with the right mix of comfort, flexibility, local knowledge, and special experiences. I’m glad you felt that throughout the trip, and I truly appreciate your kind words about the planning, communication, local guides, and personal care along the way. Thank you again for trusting me with such an important journey and for recommending **BLKN Escapes** so warmly. Please send my best regards to Rudi as well. Best, Aleksandar

A Lifetime Experience in the Balkans

We had a fantastic private tour of the Balkans, and every detail was impeccably planned and handled from start to finish exceeding our expectation. Our tour guides (in particular, Alex, Mario and Nicolas) were top notch in that they were knowledgeable the places that they showed us. They didn't just recite dates and facts, but told us captivating stories (at times their own personal stories) that brought the complex history of the cities to life. Their passion for their homeland was infectious and their friendliness made us feel like we were exploring with an old friend. The overall transport and other arrangements made were of excellent standard. The vehicles used were new, modern and comfortable. Furthermore, our guides provided us with many excellent local restaurant recommendations, and we enjoyed authentic, delicious meals we never would have found on our own. Not to mention that the Balkans are incredibly picturesque, from the stunning Adriatic coastline to the dramatic mountain passes, waterfalls and charming old towns. This tour was the perfect blend of education, relaxation, and adventure. We would highly recommend this experience. Eva and Yvonne

Response from the operator: Dear Eva and Yvonne, Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to share your experience. It was a real pleasure planning and guiding your private multi-country tour through Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Montenegro. I’m glad to hear that the itinerary, guiding, and travel experience met—and even exceeded—your expectations. We always aim to create a balance of history, culture, local flavor, and comfort, and I’m happy you felt that throughout the trip. Your appreciation for the stories, the landscapes, and the people you met along the way means a lot. On behalf of myself, Mario, Nikola, and the entire BLKN Escapes team—thank you for choosing to explore the Balkans with us. Wishing you all the best and hope to welcome you again in the future, Best, Aleksandar

Exceptional private tour of Croatia and Montenegro

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation, we booked a private, customized tour of Croatia and Montenegro with Alex, and it was incredible! Alex’s attention to detail made every stop special. We explored stunning places like Split, Trogir, Hvar, the Blue Cave, Dubrovnik, and Kotor Bay. Each location was perfectly tailored to our interests. Traveling in a spotless luxury car and a super comfortable speedboat to Hvar was fantastic. He introduced us to hidden gems like charming restaurants and cozy wineries, adding a unique touch to our journey. A standout moment was trying the local “fish and chips” on his suggestion. For anyone looking to explore Croatia’s best locations with some hidden treasures added, Alex’s tour is a must. Highly recommended! Thank you Alex, Bruce & Nadine

Amazing 17 days around the Balkans

To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we wanted to visit Croatia, which we have long wanted to see. Every single aspect of this intense, beautifully orchestrated tour was remarkable - and exceeded our (already high) expectations! Our first discussions with Aleks in the spring where we explained we wanted to "see and experience everything" gave us immediate confidence in his enthusiasm, responsiveness, vast knowledge and deep love for this region. We knew we were in good hands, and the 17 days, 4 countries and 2700+ kilometres we covered were spectacular! Our indelible adventure was filled with diversity and took us to fairytale destinations with stunning natural and man-made beauty, history and culture, rugged terrain and places of opulent elegance, from historic cosmopolitan cities to ancient forests and caves to breathtaking Adriatic coastal routes and alluring Adriatic villages. Aleks, your planning was meticulous, thoughtful and expansive, and wove together discovery, education, local experiences and breathtaking sights/sites. And filled with great touches, like the local liquor you introduced us to as we looked over the view of beautiful Zagreb. Neven, our unflappable driver/guide, was knowledgeable, patient, lively and always added value to our understanding and comfort. And how glad we were that he was navigating those hairpin turns up the steep mountain to the Monastery! Each local guide was outstanding. All our accommodations were superlative and reflective of the place we were visiting. The restaurant recommendations were perfect and helpful. We were awed by well known UNESCO sites; romantic Lake Bled; magnificent Plitvice Park with its cascading and emerald lakes; pristine and charming Ljubljana; wonderful Istrian gems: Rovinj, Pula and Opatija, as well as the singular fun of truffle hunting and the delicious home cooked truffle meal. We adored lively and lovely cities Zadar and Sibenik, Trogir and Split. And what a pleasure to stop at a family owned winery for delicious wine tasting and charcuterie (and the loveliest people!). Thank you again for that treat! Sarajevo has a fascinating history and pulsating unique energy - the meeting of east and west. The medieval city of Mostar was an unexpected delight, as were Kotor and Perast in Montenegro, where we understood the name of the country with its magnificent parks and black hills. Dubrovnik is deservedly the well-known jewel of the Adriatic. But our experience was even more special, with a visit to a private palace and the hospitality of local coffee, liquers and figs. And being treated to a stunning nighttime panoramic view of the city and surrounds as well as a delicious traditional dinner capped off a brilliant few weeks exploring this beautiful, fascinating, core of central Europe. Every detail was thorough and thoughtful and expanded our experience. I was gratified that Aleks kept in touch throughout our journey to ensure all was well. That was beyond! We will forever treasure this holiday, and are endlessly grateful to Aleks for making it possible. Every gorgeous sight, every wonderful person, every delicious experience will remain with us, always. Judith, Michael, Cheri & Wayne

Response from the operator: Dear Judith, It was absolute pleasure to meet You, Cheri, Michael & Wayne and be Your local tour operator while exploring Balkans. Your wonderful review means the world and our biggest reward is knowing we not only met, but surpassed your expectations for Private tour of the Balkans. Hearing that the unique local experiences I have arranged, from sipping liquor in Zagreb to the joy of truffle hunting, enhanced your adventure is greatly appreciated. Nevertheless, Neven's dedication is a cornerstone of our service, and I'll be sure to relay your praises to him. The Western Balkans offer a diverse and intricate blend of history, nature, and culture. My aim was to ensure you savored every facet. Your acknowledgement of my attention to detail and personal touches motivates me to continue delivering unparalleled experiences. Your comfort and contentment were paramount, and it's wonderful to hear that check-ins added to your sense of security and satisfaction. Your wonderful feedback really made my day. Wishing You all the best! Aleksandar

Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Zagreb.

How much does Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro cost?

    +

Prices start at $6511 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Zagreb usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro take?

    +

Plan for about 240 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Zagreb is not rushed.

Is Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Zagreb, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 240-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Zagreb can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Zagreb and add a light layer if any part of the 240-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Meet the Balkans - 10 day tour of Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Zagreb within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Zagreb?

    +

On Outty we rank every Zagreb experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communism & Croatian Homeland War Tour, Zagreb Highlights: Old Town, WWII tunnels, Funicular & Tastings, Old Zagreb Private Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Zagreb?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Zagreb?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
