The Best Cooking School in Southern Italy

I just finished hosting my 16th group at The Awaiting Table - the new kitchen is adorable, the dining room lovely for lingering over the meals we created, and the experience cooking together and learning about wine was special as always. Lecce is a town not to be missed in southern Italy, and The Awaiting Table is the perfect spot to learn all about southern Italian food, culture, and wine.

Response from the operator: Always a pleasure to have you with us! We look forward to seeing you again!

    A perfect day!

We had a fantastic day with Silvestro at his beautiful cooking school. We shopped, we prepped, we learned how to make and shape pasta. And then sat down for a beautiful meal, with lessons in olive oil and wine. Silvestro made our day fun and educational. Highly recommend!

Response from the operator: a treat to have you four with us! We look forward to seeing you back again!

Connecting with the culinary heart of Salento at The Awaiting Table

I had been dreaming about Puglia for many years. As a seasoned traveler whose heart was captured by the Mediterranean after living in the region as a child, I felt that a trip to Puglia might finally seal that relationship—and it did. I signed up for three separate days of cooking classes at The Awaiting Table, right in the heart of Lecce’s Centro Storico. Silvestro Silvestri’s programs are so much more than cooking classes. They include visits to the fish and vegetable markets, hands-on cooking instruction, and wonderful opportunities to learn about the character, history, climate, geology, and traditions of Salento. And all of this takes place in a beautifully preserved home dating back to 1049. Each of my three days included time in the kitchen, including making pasta by hand for the first time and mindfully kneading the dough. We then sat together and enjoyed what we had prepared, while sharing conversation with people from around the world. What I especially loved is that you can spend a full day at The Awaiting Table and immerse yourself in the culture and cuisine in a way that a typical two-hour cooking class simply can't offer. Silvestro also offers intensive week-long programs focused on subjects such as sauce-making, the wine harvest, and the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet—including fava beans, bitter greens, and other wonderful local foods. I came to Puglia hoping to deepen my connection with a place I had long dreamed about visiting. The Awaiting Table made that experience even richer. I hope to return for one of the week-long programs next time.

Response from the operator: Great to have you with us! We look forward to your return!

This week with Silvestro far exceeded our expectation.

Fabulous week with Silvestro and 4 new friends. We were enriched culturally as well as in the culinary way. We spent 5 days learning how to make pasta dough, how to create a variety of interesting shapes… and then learned how to make different kinds of wonderful dishes with that pasta. Daily trips to the market were made to purchase fresh produce for the days’ meals of both lunch and dinner. We took excursions to the wine store, cheese shop, butcher, fish monger … to purchase, but also to learn how to source the best… and then how to use those fresh ingredients to make delicious, wholesome meals. Silvestro, as both a wine and olive oil sommelier, taught us how to use, taste, and judge both wines and olive oils. Thank you Silvestro, and “The Awaiting Table” staff who patiently helped to guide us, and clean up after we had all the fun.

Response from the operator: A pleasure to have you with us! We look forward to seeing you back in the kitchen!

A must while in Lucce - Amazing!!!

Highly recommend - Guide was friendly and knew the area and region well. The walk through Lucce was very nice and we learned about the town and its history. The fish market was second to none. We picked up some amazing local fresh vegetables and bread. While we learned to make several local dishes, we had time to get to know the group. The wine and olive oil with dinner were perfecto!! Amazing experience with food and friends!

Response from the operator: Great to have you with us! We look forward to your next visit!

Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Lecce.

How much does Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia cost?

    +

Prices start at $245 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Lecce usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Lecce is not rushed.

Is Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Lecce, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia?

Is Med Fish Pasta Evoo and Rosato Wine Amaro Course in Puglia suitable for kids and families?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Lecce can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Lecce and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Lecce?

    +

On Outty we rank every Lecce experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3 hours - Boat Tour to the Caves of Santa Maria di Leuca, Understand Lecce: History & Local Stories | Small Group Tour, Tour to 4 Towns of Salento: Otranto, Leuca, Gallipoli, Galatina. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Lecce?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Lecce?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
