What you'll see and do
Shottesbrooke Vineyards
1. Shottesbrooke Vineyards The day opens at Shottesbrooke, a family-owned winery tucked into the quieter McLaren Flat end of the valley. Founded in 1984 by winemaker Nick Holmes, it has stayed small, hands-on and proudly independent for four decades, and its Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet regularly pick up show medals without the fuss of a big-name cellar door. Your hosted tasting here is relaxed and unhurried, with a generous pour and a chat about how McLaren Vale's sea breezes and ancient soils shape what's in your glass. A gentle, genuine start before the bigger names.

Wirra Wirra Vineyards
From there it's a short drive to one of McLaren Vale's true icons. Wirra Wirra was first planted in 1894, fell into ruin, and was famously rebuilt stone by stone in 1969 by the eccentric and much-loved Greg Trott. The ironstone cellar door, the giant Angelus bell and the trebuchet on the lawn all carry his sense of fun, and the wines carry his seriousness, most of all Church Block, the red blend that has been on Australian tables for over fifty years, and the Angelus Cabernet. A James Halliday five-star winery, and a tasting you'll remember.

After two tastings we stop in the township of McLaren Vale for 45 minutes. Your pick of a locally made pie, pasty or sweet treat from The Cottage Bakery on the main street is included in the tour price, an easy way to keep you fed between wineries. Eat in, or take it with you and stroll the main street, browse the shops and cafés, and stretch your legs before the afternoon.

The Menz FruChocs Shop
A few doors down, and strictly for the sweet tooths, is the Menz FruChocs Shop. FruChocs are a South Australian institution, chocolate-coated apricot and peach bites that locals grew up on, and this is the home of them. Fifteen minutes is all you need to browse the shelves, try a sample and pick up a bag or two for the road. No admission, no pressure, just a very Adelaide bit of nostalgia in the middle of wine country.
15 minutes here
d'Arenberg
On the way home we pass d'Arenberg, home of the famous five-storey Cube rising out of the vines like a puzzle left in a paddock. We don't go inside on this tour, but on request the driver will pull over for a quick photo stop so you can capture one of the most recognisable buildings in Australian wine before we head back to Adelaide.
Pass by without stopping
Final Stop: A True Aussie Pub in the City We finish the day the way South Australians do — at a classic city pub. Your first drink is on us (Benders shouts the round), so settle in, kick back and toast the day's wine, views and good company. Feel like staying on? Grab a pub meal for dinner at your own leisure — hearty schnitzels, parmis and a proper Aussie welcome. It's the perfect low-key end before you head back to your accommodation.

"McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink": questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Adelaide.
How much does "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink" cost?
+
Prices start at $89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Adelaide usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink" take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Adelaide is not rushed.
Is "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink" worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (0/5 across 0 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Adelaide, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink"?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink" suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink"?
+
Around 0 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Adelaide can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Adelaide and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does "McLaren Vale Wine Tour from Adelaide with Pie Lunch & Pub Drink" start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Adelaide within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Adelaide?
+
On Outty we rank every Adelaide experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Barossa Small Group Tour: Wine tasting, Lunch & Chocolate, Discover Barossa: 4 Wine Tastings, Gourmet Lunch, and Hidden Gems, Adelaide Highlights, Hahndorf & McLaren Vale Wine Tasting and Sightseeing Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Adelaide?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Adelaide?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
