The Chalk Hill heritage started with the arrival of John Harvey to Adelaide in 1839 when there were around 6,000 people living in Adelaide. John was the second person to plant grapevines north of Adelaide, preceding the birth of the Barossa and Clare wine growing regions. Six generations and 185 years later, the Harvey family continue their grape growing and winemaking heritage in McLaren Vale with Chalk Hill. 3. Samuel's Gorge

The wines of Samuel's Gorge are crafted by hand and reflect the landscape in which we work. We reference history for texture, complexity and harmony. We engage patient techniques, utilising indigenous yeast, ensuring our ferments are long and slow. Our winery is under the cover of a lean to and at night a ceiling of stars. Visitors to Samuel's Gorge are welcome to see our process during harvest, in late summer.

  4. Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards Cellar Door and Winery

Six generations of stubborn, competitive growers and one equally spirited winemaker – that’s the Oliver family. Their collection of small batch, handcrafted, Oliver’s Taranga wines speak of both the variety and vintage, capturing a time and place, while continuing to document the family’s ongoing 185 year relationship with the land.

Fabulous host for wine tours!

We have booked with George for the past three years for our McLaren Vale wine tour and will continue to book with him every time we come back. His warm and friendly service is appreciated, and the extra touches like taking photos and suggesting new places to visit is always appreciated. He is very professional and personable.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much fir this great support and review, it is so nice to see you all each year, a vibrant and fun group to have on tour, we can take pictures and add them to each year though non of you are aging so it may look like a 7 day tour rather than a 7 year collection. All the best to you and your loved ones, you have a great group of friends I am have enjoyed hosting you all. Regards George K

Excellet day with george and wine valley tours

What an excellent day. Wine Valley tours made the trip interesting , easy, enjoyable and seamless. George knew everyone at all the wineries. he catered specifically to our needs. offered good advice, and changed when needed. As a driving companion George was both professional and easy going offered excellent tips and history on the vineyards . The day felt safe and well catered. We really couldn't have asked for anything more.

Response from the operator: Dear Evan, Thank you very much for your kind words. It was a pleasure hosting you and your companions. I'm delighted you enjoyed your tour of the McLaren Vale wineries. I agree, the Mollydooker lunch, with its excellent wine and stunning views, was a highlight. We truly appreciate the generous tip and the time you took to write such a thoughtful review. Your feedback provides valuable insight into our services and the importance of a well-crafted winery tour. We hope to welcome you all back to McLaren Vale in the future. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you require any assistance. George Wine Valley Tours

A MUST do wine tour!

A brilliant day that we’ll remember for a long time - 4 guys and a wonderful day of wine tasting! George was so friendly and knowledgeable, so we could relax and he drove us to some beautiful places in McLaren Vale that we wouldn’t have known - the highlight being D’Arenberg and “the cube” there - a must see! I’ve told lots of friends and highly recommend George (he even played our favourite music on the way back to Adelaide!). Do yourself a favour and book this - you won’t be disappointed! Thank you George!

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for the great review, I wish to see you all again and hope that we can show you the Barossa and the Adelaide Hills whenever you like to visit again. Your review is very important and you can also add reviews to the places I took you to.

Great wine tour in McLaren valley

Great wine tour visiting four very different wineries each offering very good wines to taste. Had a nice lunch on a wineyard with great views over the wines. The guide was superb, very knowledgeable and helpful even taking us to an extra 5th place for a glass of shiraz. We had a great time

Response from the operator: Thank you both for a great day, interesting chat throughout your day and I am glad to hear the 5th place worked well for you both, Mollydooker staff remembered this late visit and asked how you went, I gave positive feedback. I hope you return again and keep up your furniture skills, please email me at goerge@winevalleytours.com.au so I can send some links.

Best. Tour. Ever.

George took my wife and I on a simply amazing day tasting wine through the McLaren Vale. While we were a bit time crunched, needing to get back to our cruise ship, we were still able to get four wineries, some breakfast, and great lunch in during the day. George couldn’t have been any friendlier and the best guide. We’ll definitely use him again if we make it back to Adelaide.

Response from the operator: Hi Jonothan and Heather, "Thank you so much for your kind words, I am thrilled to hear that you and your wife had such a wonderful day exploring the McLaren Vale with us. It's our goal to provide unforgettable experiences, and from your kind words it sounds like we achieved that. I hope to have the opportunity to show you around again in the future, perhaps with more time to explore. Until then, look after your great dog and each other and cheers!"

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Adelaide.

How much does McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary. cost?

+

Prices start at $198 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Adelaide usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary. take?

+

Plan for about 7.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Adelaide is not rushed.

Is McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary. worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Adelaide, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary.?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary. suitable for kids and families?

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 7.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book McLaren Vale Shared Tour, visit 4 wineries . Best itinerary.?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Adelaide can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Adelaide and add a light layer if any part of the 7.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+

What are the best things to do in Adelaide?

+

On Outty we rank every Adelaide experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Barossa Small Group Tour: Wine tasting, Lunch & Chocolate, Discover Barossa: 4 Wine Tastings, Gourmet Lunch, and Hidden Gems, Adelaide Highlights, Hahndorf & McLaren Vale Wine Tasting and Sightseeing Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Adelaide?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Adelaide?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
