Tamarindo
Upon departing, you will leisurely sail along the Gold Coast enjoying some of the vast, abundant and varied sea life found along our shores. Some of the sea life you hope to encounter includes whales, dolphins, turtles, flying fish, rays and a wide variety of seabirds. If conditions permit, you will also throw a few fishing lines off the back in the hopes of hooking into one of the many game fish that ply our waters. Eventually the catamaran pulls into one of the many secluded bays in the area and you’ll have the opportunity to swim in the warm Costa Rican waters. Life vests, pool noodles, snorkel equipment and stand up paddle boards are available should weather conditions permit. For those passengers not wanting to get wet the catamaran is a great place to relax in the shade of the huge main salon or lounge in the sun on one of the many open deck areas.

Sunset is a must go
Great trip. Awesome friendly crew. Good drinks good food. Beautiful little cove to see rays, pufferfish, turtles and the guide saw a small nurse shark in the rocks.

Great trip
Fantastic experience. Felipe was a great host and Gerardo as Capt did a phenomenal job all around. Great food too! Very attentive crew and we enjoyed the water and snorkeling experience!

Food and drinks were...
Food and drinks were great. Boat ride was amazing, the boat was big, comfortable and clean. It wasn’t the best snorkeling but that could have been partially due to the weather, it was quite windy. It was a bit more of a party crowd than we would have preferred.

It was well represented...
It was well represented by how it is promoted. We did not see any whales or dolphins but the sunset was beautiful.

Fun afternoon on the water with plenty of drinks and food!
My husband and I had a great time. The guides where very knowledgeable and the drinks and food were great. We saw turtles, dolphins and lots of different kinds of birds. The snorkeling was ok, the surf was a little rough so we only saw a little but the sunset made up for the lack of underwater experience. We have taken this tour 2 other times and definitely recommend it for families, couples and groups looking to enjoy the sights from the ocean. There where a few smaller kids 2-4yo that I don't think enjoyed it as much. The boat isn't that big and as a parent I would hate to chase a toddler around on a moving potentially slippery boat.

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Playa Hermosa.
How much does Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco cost?
+
Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Playa Hermosa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Playa Hermosa is not rushed.
Is Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 674 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Playa Hermosa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco?
+
Around 236 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Playa Hermosa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Playa Hermosa and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Marlin del Rey Catamaran – Tamarindo & Playas del Coco start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Playa Hermosa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Playa Hermosa?
+
On Outty we rank every Playa Hermosa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sloth Wildlife Experience, Coffee, Chocolate & Waterfall, Guachipelin Adventure Volcano Zipline River Tubing Combo, Adventure in Volcano Combo Tour! - Zip Line, Waterfall, Hot Springs and More. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Playa Hermosa?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Playa Hermosa?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
