    I highly recommend

I highly recommend this trip. It was absolutely worth the price. Our guide, Giannis, was very friendly and very knowledgeable about both the military and cultural history of Greece. I consider myself fairly well-read on Greek history, but I still learned new things. We went on three different private tours with three different tour companies during our trip, and while this was the most expensive one, it was hands down the best. I'll never forget seeing Marathon from up high and resting my legs in the same hot springs the Spartans once used. If you're a history buff this tour is definitely worth it.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience! It's delightful to hear how much you enjoyed learning from our knowledgeable guide and exploring the historical sites. We appreciate your recommendation and are thrilled you found the tour memorable.

    Marathon and thermopholie tour

Andreas Was a very good driver and showed a lot of energy in sharing the rich cultural history of ancient Greece. A local Athenian, he drove impeccably throughout a very congested city. He went out of his way to make sure we saw everything that could be seen in both the marathon and Thermopholie areas. He treated us like family and we’d be happy to go on another tour with him again.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with Andreas! We're thrilled to hear he made your Marathon & Thermopylae tour memorable with his knowledge, as well as his skillful and safe driving. We'll definitely pass along your kind words to him!

    Best experience in Greece

We did 2 day tours ( Marathon, Thermopylae and Olimpia tour) and one 2 day tour (Sparta, Mystras- Monovasia) with the company. All the tours were perfectly organised, professional and interesting. We had great time- Terry the driver and Giorgos and Yiannis the guides were great. We learned and saw a lot. I can just recommend the experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your experience! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the tours and found them well-organized and interesting. We'll make sure to pass your kind words to Terry, Giorgos, and Yiannis.

A Magical experience with an expert tour guide!

Our tour guide Alex was knowledgeable, kind, and led us on an amazing experience walking the battlefields of Marathon and Thermopylae. He even opened the door for my wife when we got in the car! He answered all my questions on the drive as well as all the pertinent information leading up to the battles, the details of the battles, and the implications of the battles on history. I highly recommend this tour as well as our guide Alex! Thank you so much for a wonderful time and unforgettable experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled you had such an unforgettable experience with Alex and found the tour insightful and enjoyable. Your recommendation means a lot to us and we hope to see you again!

Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens cost?

    +

Prices start at $317 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens take?

    +

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 64 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens?

    +

Around 22 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Marathon & Thermopylae Battlefields Private Day Tour from Athens start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
