    A once in lifetime walk

El Caminito del Rey, Ardales – Southern Spain This is a breathtaking walk of around 8 km and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to southern Spain. I would recommend booking your tickets in advance, as it can get busy when you arrive. We were part of a guided group, and our guide, Gregory, was a local who had lived in the valley all his life. He was knowledgeable and full of humour, which made the four-hour experience even more enjoyable. Much of the route is along a walkway about a metre wide, bolted directly to the cliff face, with some spectacular views into the gorge below. You are provided with a safety helmet, which must be worn along the route. Make sure you take plenty of water, as it starts to get quite hot by mid-morning. I would also recommend a sun hat and sunglasses. And, of course, take your phone or camera because there are some stunning opportunities for photographs and videos. The final part of the walk is a little more tiring than you might expect. After leaving the main gorge, there is a steady descent and then a fairly long walk to the gathering area, where you can finally sit down, have a drink and get something to eat. From there, it is only a short walk to the coach/bus stop. There is a small hut where you can buy your bus ticket, which was €2.50 when we visited. The bus takes you back towards the different parking areas, depending on where you started. Things I would definitely take: water, a sun hat, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes, and a phone or camera. A spectacular experience and well worth doing. The scenery is breathtaking, and walking along the cliff face makes it a day you won't forget.

Caminito amazing - don't pay for guided tour

The Caminito Del Rey offered amazing views and jaw-dropping sights. However, I do not believe a guide was needed. It was very difficult to comprehend the guide and it was much less cost- effective. Our guide, named Samuel, was very nice and had some very interesting things to say, but we did not properly hear some of them. The bridge was the best part of all the views, though it was slightly frightening. 🫣 For a 40 euros per person you would think the return shuttle bus would be included. The company who organised the tour was rather chaotic and had not organised the meeting point clearly and additionally about 30 minutes late to start. In summary, I think the Caminito Del Rey is an amazing experience, but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't have gone for a guide again. Caminto 5 star Guide 2 star

    Great day out

The hike is spectacular and not strenuous at all. Very safe environment and with the exception of the suspension bridge at the end there are no scary bits. The bridge was affected by hight winds when we were there so it had a bit of sway but nothing more. Went with two children aged 12 and 14 and they loved it too. It is a two hour leisurely walk from end to end.

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
