Family Day Trip — West Side

A phenomenal day out and one to be highly recommended. Our driver / host, Jaz, was impeccable. His English excellent, his ‘tour guiding’ capabilities spot on, the Jeep Wrangler 4x4 was the best car on the circuit and his Spotify playlist perfect. As far as a private tour goes, the price was very competitive and the overall experience doesn’t get any better!!! 5 Star Experience 👏👏👏

Jazz’s Jeep Adventure Tour of a Lifetime

An unforgettable Madeira adventure! From the South to Central West to off-road trails, breathtaking views of the Nuns Valley (the mountains and valleys will surprise) and a 580 meter (~1750 feet) glass floor hanging off a cliff - thankfully a stop for poncha (a popular local drink at an off the beat bar) to calm the nerves, every stop amazed us. Jazz, our driver, was knowledgeable, professional, hilarious, and personable, making every scenic photo stop truly special.

Perfect in every way, just wish we could have booked another day!!

If you’re visiting Madeira, we highly recommend requesting Jaz as your guide. His professionalism, kindness, and passion for the island made our day truly unforgettable. Wish we had more time with Jaz because 4 hours was just a tiny piece of what Madeira has to offer. We could have easily spent a week or more. As a result, we will definitely be back and we will most certainly request Jaz at Vanscapes. Thank you, Jaz, for your knowledge, and your beautiful smile and passion for this amazing island.

An amazing day on Madeira!

We had an incredible full day jeep tour with Vanscapes. Jazz picked us up at our AirBnB and gave us an overview of what our day would look like. He was great at changing things up based on what we had already seen. We set off at 9:30 am and hit a lot of wonderful spots in western Madeira: Valley of the Nuns; Camara de Lobos; Ponta do Sol; Paul de Mar; Ponta do Pargo. We stopped for a poncha at Bar Mario and mojitos at MakTub. Jazz was awesome. He was personable, fun, and had a great sense of humor. He was knowledgeable about the island (maybe not about specific tree species, but that was okay ;-P) and seemed to know everyone. I would have given this tour more than 5 stars if I could have, and would recommend Vanscapes, and especially Jazz, to anyone looking for an unforgettable day on Madeira.

Response from the operator: Hi there! We absolutely loved reading this—especially the part about Jaz’s "botanical expertise" (or lack thereof)! We’ll definitely have to get him a book on Madeira’s trees before his next tour. 😉 Joking aside, thank you so much for the 5+ stars. Being flexible and adapting the route on the fly based on what you’ve already seen is exactly how we like to roll. For us, it’s all about creating a relaxed day out with friends rather than a rigid tourist tour. It sounds like you hit the perfect combo: great views, Bar Mário's poncha, and Maktub’s mojitos to finish the day right. Thank you for choosing us and for sharing this awesome feedback. Next time you're back in Madeira, Jaz will be ready—hopefully with a few tree names memorized! Cheers, Francisco The Vanscape Tours Team

Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.

How much does Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition cost?

+

Prices start at $260 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition take?

+

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.

Is Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Madeira West Highlights: Private Half-Day Expedition start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Funchal?

+

On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Funchal?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Funchal?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
