Indeed breathtaking
Our visit to Machu Picchu was indeed truly unforgettable. From the scenic train journey and Peruvian cultural entertainment to the early-morning bus ride up the winding mountain road, the whole experience felt special. Seeing Machu Picchu for the first time was simply breathtaking. The spectacular setting, incredible history and magnificent views exceeded all our expectations. An amazing experience from start to finish and one of the definite highlights of our time in Peru.

Okay
The guide was above average but his photography skills were excellent. I realised this is preferable to having an excellent guide as memories are in the pictures and videos. The communication was problematic. There was no contact from the tour operator and contacted them the day before. Communication was delayed with a reply that the guide would contact us by the evening. Only next morning at 7.30 am did he contact us for a tour starting at 10.30 am. Had us worried as we needed a guide to visit Machu Pichu.

Don't Make the Same Mistake We Did
Of course, this is a must-visit place for tourists. We arrived in Aguas Calientes the day before and had tickets for the 7:00 a.m. entry to Machu Picchu. Looking back, I think going that early was a mistake. When we arrived by bus, we were greeted by rainy weather. We didn't have umbrellas, and our guide didn't encourage us to buy any rain protection beforehand. A few minutes after we entered, heavy rain started pouring down. The famous views were completely hidden by clouds, and we got soaked. It was so bad that my shoes were still wet when we got back home to Geneva! It was also quite cold, making the whole tour very unpleasant. Based on our experience, I would recommend booking an entry time around noon, when you're more likely to have better weather. I don't remember which circuit we took, but it started from the lower area. In my opinion, it's not worth it. Instead, choose one of the circuits that includes the classic panoramic viewpoint, which is much more impressive. Unfortunately, because of the terrible weather, we didn't get to see Machu Picchu at all. We'll have to come back one day and hopefully have better luck.
