Poor experience with Machu Picchu Travel – Failure and lack of professionalism
Bad experience with Machu Picchu Trips – Incompetence and lack of professionalism. Unfortunately, we had a very bad experience with Machu Picchu Viagens and we want to warn other travellers to avoid this agency. We closed a package to Peru (Lima, Huaraz, Cusco, Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu) from 1 to 09/03/2025 for two people. Seller Lisette was extremely attentive until the time of payment. After that, he disappeared. For three days we tried contact and we were completely ignored. Given the lack of response, we sought help with Lucas, from the office in Brazil, who confirmed that the agency existed and would ask Lisette to contact us. When we finally received the return, instead of solving the problem, Lisette reproached us, saying that we should not contact the agency of Brazil and that the contacts should be made directly with her, even if she did not respond. From that point on, our journey was marked by disorganization and lack of support. Our first problem happened at the beginning of the trip, in Lima. We had paid the late checkout to stay in the room until 20:00, as guaranteed by the agency and written in the script sent by them. However, on the day of departure, we were informed by the hotel that the late checkout only went until 18:00. We had to leave the room two hours before the appointment and cancel part of our scheduled program for that day, in addition to losing almost 2 hours trying to settle with the hotel and with the agency. The agency replied that everything was okay and the hotel said it wasn't. A problem that could have been avoided with a minimum of organization and honesty. But the worst was still to come. When we arrived at Aguas Calientes at 9:45, we found that the trails we would do in Machu Picchu, the next day at 7:00 a.m., were closed for two days. The agency knew that and didn't warn us. We only got to know the night before the tour, by the guide. Without time to react or look for alternatives, we end up doing just one of the two we paid. And now the agency refuses to refund the $65 we paid for the cancelled track. We know that the track was closed due to weather and safety conditions and we fully understand, but the problem is that the agency could have warned us before so that we could check and think of possibilities and could have requested the refund of tickets. We talked to an employee in Machu Picchu and he said that the refund was possible, but since it was not us who bought the tickets the agency that would have to make the request. The agency directed us to make another route as an alternative, which was also closed. Also, the communication with the agency was very bad. They created a WhatsApp group for support, but most of our messages were ignored. We were treated with total disrespect. We didn’t get an answer or they just said everything was resolved when nothing was resolved. Our experience with Machu Picchu Travel was extremely frustrating. Made a travel dream turn into bad memories. Lack of professionalism, commitment and respect for the customer. =================================== Update on our experience with Machu Picchu Travel After registering our complaint with the agency in Brazil, we were contacted by the agency manager in Cusco, who carried out a detailed assessment of all the problems we faced during the trip. He provided us with explanations about what happened, accepted our suggestions for improvement and demonstrated commitment to correcting deficiencies in the care. In addition, within two days after the complaint was registered, the agency made the due refund, demonstrating a satisfactory effort in the post-sales treatment. The manager also committed to strengthening internal communication to ensure that the information is always clear and correct, as well as reorienting the team to prevent similar situations from happening in the future.

Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.
How much does Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $1213 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 168 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.
Is Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 168-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 168-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Machu Picchu, Cusco & Lake Titicaca 7-Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Full-Day Humantay Lake Trek (Meals Included), Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
