Geisha spend years mastering many traditional arts, and the star of them all is Nihon Buyo, Japan's classical dance. This is not a geisha or maiko show: it is performed by the true specialists of the art, dancers of the Senju school under Grand Master Senju Einojo, in full traditional costume and makeup. The dance takes place in ZEN Kyoto's one-of-a-kind glass tea room or on its Zen rock garden stage, right in front of your seats. After the performance, the dancer explains the meaning of the graceful gestures in a Q&A and teaches you a few movements in a short workshop. Every group is guaranteed private photo time with the dancer. ZEN is a short walk from Nishiki Market, and one welcome drink is included. Seating is in small box tables for up to 4 guests, so the atmosphere stays intimate.

What you get

  • Nihon Buyo dance performance by Senju school dancers (approx. 15 min)
  • Q&A and gesture workshop with the dancer
  • Private photo time with the dancer for each group
