    A great time had

This was a fantastic experience set in a tranquil "tea house" setting. Our hosts were a young couple who were a delight and clearly passionate, we also learned they had only started the business earlier this year, it did not show. The experience was in 3 parts, the first was choosing and wearing of a kimono, from an extensive collection which certainly helped make us feel special. The second was the tea ceremony and learning the tradition behind it. We got to make our own tea, which was fun, but you will either love or hate the taste of matcha! The last part was watching our names be written before having a go ourselves. All in all a great experience which we can recommend. The only thing to add is the venue was a little hard to find so maybe a link to something like what3words might be helpful.

This is my best recommendation in Kyoto!

✨Having the entire house all to ourselves was absolutely amazing❤️ When I tried a matcha experience elsewhere before, it was crowded with strangers and felt rushed, like we were just being pushed through a routine😭 But here, we could take our time chatting and truly relax. We also learned so much about Japanese culture that you can't find online. It made our trip to Japan so much more unforgetable✨✨ This is my best recommendation in Kyoto! I’m definitely coming back, and I can't wait to see the two wonderful hosts again💖

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your heartwarming words! We were deeply moved by your deep respect for Japanese culture. We will never forget how happy you looked when we wrote your name down for you! Creating a peaceful, unhurried space where our guests can truly relax is exactly what we strive for. We are delighted to know that our private matcha experience made your trip so special. It was an honor for both of us to host you, and we sincerely look forward to welcoming you back to your home in Kyoto! 💖

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Kyoto.

How much does Kyoto:100% Private Tea Ceremony,Calligraphy and Kimono cost?

    +

Prices start at $84 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

    +

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto Ghost Tour: Dark Tales, Urban Legends, Bamboo Forest Night, Kyoto : Chopsticks Making Workshop with Engraving Option in Gion, Kyoto: Gion Hidden Gems & Geisha Culture Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
