The Auschwitz-Birkenau complex was established in 1940 in place of old polish army barracks. Originally to hold Polish POW`s political prisoners, and operated until its liberation by advancing soviets in 1945. During its operation, more than 1.5 million Jewish, Polish, Italian and French prisoners were brought here ,of which 1.1m. was exterminated as part of largest genocide in human history. Leaving survivors terribly scared for live. The Auschwitz complex comprises of original buildings and you can see the original roads, fences, watchtowers and railway ramps, and death wall. Brzezinka
The second part of the tour - Birkenau - is the largest camp of over 40 camps and sub-camps from the Auschwitz complex. Originally planned as a camp for Soviet prisoners of war, it eventually became a concentration camp for prisoners of various nationalities and a center of the extermination of Jews. Its construction began in October 1941 by the hands of slave labourers, in a place of a displaced and mostly demolished village of Brzezinka and three kilometres from Auschwitz I. It was designed to hold 125 000 prisoners at one time. Who was from the start destined to die from cold, hunger, diseases, and exhaustion. Prisoners were treated as redundant and easily replaceable workforce. You will see unimaginable living conditions; prisoners have to adapt. You can walk to preserved camp barracks. You will see the rail ramp, where infamous Dr. Mengele oversaw the selection process of new arrivals, when a split second decided your life or death in gas chambers. They were only 200m away.

A Significant Visit, but the Tour Was Incomplete
The visit itself was very significant, but the tour did not fully match what we booked. Our guide was lovely, polite and professional; however, we did not receive the complete guided tour of Auschwitz I that was advertised and paid for. Important exhibitions, including victims’ shoes, suitcases and clothing, were missed. These displays are a meaningful part of the Auschwitz I experience, so travellers should confirm exactly what is included in the itinerary before booking. We were disappointed that the full experience was not provided and that obtaining a refund was difficult.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re very sorry that the visit did not fully match the experience you expected and, in particular, that you felt important exhibitions at Auschwitz I were missed. We’re glad to hear that you found your guide lovely, polite and professional. At the same time, we fully understand your disappointment, especially given the significance of the site and the fact that you booked expecting the complete itinerary. The route and access to individual exhibitions at Auschwitz-Birkenau can sometimes be affected by the museum’s operational arrangements and visitor flow, but we understand that this does not change your expectations regarding the advertised tour. We will review the itinerary and the communication around the visit to ensure that the inclusions are presented as clearly as possible. We’re also sorry that you found the refund process difficult. If you have not already done so, please contact us directly with your booking details so that we can review exactly what happened during your visit. Thank you again for your feedback. We take your comments seriously and hope we can provide a clearer and more complete experience for future visitors.

I booked this as a...
I booked this as a last-minute tour. That being said, what you get to see is extremely limited. If everything is already booked, then this would be your alternative. Other than that, I would recommend booking another tour because this one leaves you feeling like you showed up to see Auschwitz but got turned away at the door.

We had the best experience on our tour .. from start to finish .. our guide Damien was amazing .. he was full of knowledge and was passionate about the whole tour .. he didnt hesitate to respond to any questions in fact encouraged us to ask so we weren't left with any unanswered questions. I loved the fact it was headsets and you could just brows around the particular room we were in and still listen to all the information Damien was giving us .. the groups were kept 2 a small group and everything was really well organised. I wasnt the most knowledgeable about the the whole thing but came away full of knowledge and have since watched a few films since been back recommended by damien and it makes u watch the film with a whole different outlook once you have visited.. highly recommend if visiting krakow

We will be absolutely delighted to pass your compliments along to him—he will be incredibly touched to know he made you feel so supported and informed. We are also glad that the small group size and the headset system allowed you the space to quietly process and browse the rooms at your own pace without missing any of Damian's insights. Great atmosphere in a smaller group and excellent storytelling by our friendly guide Damian. Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Krakow.
How much does Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up cost?
+
Prices start at $250 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Krakow usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Krakow is not rushed.
Is Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 423 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Krakow, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up?
+
Around 148 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Krakow can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Krakow and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Krakow to Auschwitz-Birkenau Fully Guided Tour with Hotel Pick-up start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Krakow within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Krakow?
+
On Outty we rank every Krakow experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Complete Cracow Bike Tour (small group of maximum 15 people!), Krakow–Zakopane: Cable Car, Chocholow Baths, Cheese & Vodka, Krakow: Zakopane & Hot Springs Tour with Cable Car (Hotel Pickup). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Krakow?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Krakow?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
