Mahalo to Sean and Brad! Definitely worth the time and money!

Went out on the Bite Me 4 with Sean and Brad today. They were both great and made the trip very memorable. It was my wife’s first time deep she fishing and she caught a 30lb skipjack tuna. Definitely something she will always remember.

Response from the operator: We LOVE to read this!! Captain Brad & Sean are experienced fishermen that have come over from Maui to join our team and we are lucky to have them with us. We appreciate you coming out to share the fishing adventure with us! Sending our Aloha.

    1/2 Day pelagic charter (marlin)

Did the 1/2 day shared Charter on Bite Me 4, though it was captained by the usual bite Me 6 Captain Brian. Clayton was the deck hand. Brian and Clayton were very friendly and knowledgeable, and catered to my 7 year old son who can talk underwater. They put the group onto 4 marlin, 3 blue and one stripped. All the other people on the boat that day were really friendly (2 Canadians and 2 from the mainland USA). Can recommend the charter to anyone.

    Don’t do it

Our trip was scheduled for 6:30 am, we drove 45 minutes, arrived early, only to find out at 6:20 am that trip was cancelled ( I have the captains email). What a perfectly terrible experience, still haven’t gotten a refund, and we would have to given them 48 hours notice, hmmmmm, think they’ll reimburse us for gas and time, ha ha ha….

Response from the operator: Aloha Herb, Unfortunatly we are at the mercy of ocean conditions. That particular day the swells were very large which closed out the mouth of the harbor. You have been refunded and we do apologize for the inconvenience. -Mahalo

4 Catches! Fun Time! Solid Captain! Gray Taxonomy Upsell Warning

Paid for the 4-hour Private Charter on Bite-Me 6. Tip #1: Directions to the boat extremely confusing so to not ruin your trip come early to ensure your on time like we did! Tip #2: We caught an amazing 150 lb Blue Marlin and 3 Skip Jacks Tunas each about 30 lbs but to be fair one of the Tuna ended up just half a Tuna due to the sharks circling the boat grabbing it. Tip #2 (in humor) reel faster or end up with a fraction of a fish. Tip #3: I let the captain have one of the Tunas and took my ice chest and took the 2nd Tuna and 1/3 of the Blue Marlin..... Captain may have sold the Tuna but that is ok. I could not eat any more than one Tuna with my family on the trip. He said he shares it with the friends, family, Hotel Concierge who recommended them. He may have sold the whole Tuna but honestly I dont care. Better he pocket it than me wasting it. Tip #4: He secretly stop really trying to catch fish after the 4th fish was caught about 35 mins into the trip. I knew it and let it go. My son wanted more but honestly knew we would be wasting fish and we had enough fun so it became more of whale /Shark seeking tour in which we found a really large Whale Shark. Tip #5: There are real sharks in water so dont even think about jumping in the water when fishing. Tip #6: Tip the Captain and Crew. We gave 20% since we did catch 4 fish and let him keep one of the whole Tunas. Tip #7: Most Important Tip of them all - Watch out for Gray Taxidermy Upsell. What every they quote you, it cost 3Xs more to get a generic plastic fish that has nothing to do with the one you caught or look like the one your caught. They try to scam us for 150 lb marlin for 1K but after shipping, crating, taxes, and a basic wood board, they wanted $3,000+ for a plastic fish that looked nothing like the one we caught. We were lucky they wrote the credit card numbers wrong so they could not "non refund" our deposit. Captain I suspect gets a kick-back and did not push it too hard like I hear other captains do, but Gray Taxidermy is a total rip-off. Watch out as you have been warned. Net Net! Worth the trip if you dont get Gray Taxidermy-ed !

Response from the operator: It sounds like you had a really nice trip and we do kindly appreciate the review and tips for travlers. Gray Taxidermy is available for those that would like to have a replica of the fish caught but not required by any of our anglers. We have a few in our own offices as reminders of thoses special moments. We hope you had a great experience and enjoyed the fresh fish!! -Aloha

Trip generally a success, captains are a drag.

Went on deep sea and manta Rey snorkel. Deck hands were great, captains (Andy, on deep sea, apparently 20 years doing charters is too long) expressed contempt for tourists. Nothing directed at my family; just overt, voiced contempt. Deck hands on both trips did what they could to blunt the issue but it was obvious and hung over the group.

Summit tours have real altitude rules, so we weight safety detail. On Outty we rank every Big Island of Hawaii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include KONA Manta Ray Night Snorkel - FREE re-ride if no Sightings, Big Island: Captain Cook Snorkel On A Power Catamaran With Lunch, Big Island in a Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing and History. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

April to October, though the island runs year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
