What you get
About this experience
Genocide Museum (S-21 )served as the central hub of a vast prison system throughout the country and was used throughout the period as a secret facility for the detention, interrogation, torture and extermination of those deemed “political enemies” of the regime. Due to a policy of guilt-by-association, at times whole families were detained at the center. Very few inmates were released out of the prison during the years 1975 and 1979. Only 12 former inmates survived the opening of S-21 when Phnom Penh was liberated. Four of them were children. Killing Field between 1975 and 1979 by the Khmer Rouge in perpetrating the Cambodian genocide. Situated about 17 kilometres (11 mi) south of the city centre, it was attached to the Tuol Sleng detention centre. The bodies of 8,895 victims were exhumed from the site after the fall of the khmere Rouge, who would have been executed there—typically with pickaxes to conserve bullets—before being buried in mass graves.

Book this experience!
This tour is one of the best we've been on in our travels. It's very informative but seeing these things where they happened was surreal. Thorn was an excellent and knowledgable guide. We would highly recommend to anyone.
Response from the operator: thanks for your spent time with our services

Great Tour
We had a great tour. Our driver and tour guide were early to the hotel and met us immediately in the lobby. The tour guide was informative and helpful. Our biggest problem was the heat and having an air conditioned car with several bottles of water on hand was our savior. Going to the Genocide museum and Killing Fields is not necessarily a happy place but it’s still a mandatory destination when in Phnom Penh. We weren’t used to this kind of heat coming from the northern U.S. so I had picked this tour just because it was only scheduled for 4-5 hours and in actuality we were back early at our own request. My wife could only take so much of the brutality of the sites. Having been to Auschwitz this will leave you with a similar sense of sadness that humans could be so cruel to one another.
Response from the operator: thank you for your review! we appreciate you letting us know about your experience with our tour . is there anything we could have done differently to make it a 5 _star experience?

Why this scores 59
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Phnom Penh.
How much does Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $80 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Phnom Penh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Phnom Penh is not rushed.
Is Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Phnom Penh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Phnom Penh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Phnom Penh and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Killing Field and Genocide Museum private haft day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Phnom Penh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Phnom Penh?
+
On Outty we rank every Phnom Penh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Tuol Sleng S21 and Choeung Ek Killing Field Tour, The Killing Field and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) Tour, Killing field and Toul Sleng genocide museum Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Phnom Penh?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Phnom Penh?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
