Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market
Khlong Lat Mayom is one of the three floating markets located close to Bangkok. Khlong Lat Mayom is nothing like the huge touristy Damnoen Saduak or the crowded Amphawa but really has the charm and authenticity of a local market and you might be one of the only foreigners around. Everybody love floating markets - Thai and tourists alike - you just have to see how locals flock to the place on weekends! Local market culture has deep roots in Thai daily life and eating out is not a special event as it is in western culture: it’s fun, cheap and casual, and Thai food has so many variations it can be a travelling theme on its own. Just like the two other markets around Bangkok, the definition of ’floating market’ is a bit stretched, the place being in fact more of a riverside market. The canal here is very narrow and only few boats are parked all alongside the riverbank and below a low bridge, cooking for customers who sit at low tables all along the water. Eating is always the highlight of a floating market visit, sitting on a little wooden stool not higher than 10 cm and ordering a dish cooked on a tiny wooden boat anchored just next to your table is such a fun and exotic experience! Don’t be shy and try some of the dishes you are not familiar with... if you don’t know what it is, just point at your neighbour’s plate: noodle soups, Pad Thai, Kanom Jeen (cold rice vermicellis) or Hoi Tod (oyster omelet) for 20 to 30 baht per plate. The drinks are usually sold by another person walking around.

Taling Chan Floating Market
Located just outside of Bangkok on the access road to Khlong Bangkok Noi, Taling Chan looks like any other fresh food market busy with produce vendors from nearby farms. But the twist emerges at the canal where several floating docks serve as informal dining rooms and the kitchens are boats tethered to the docks.

Local Thai Market and boat ride
The first market you visit is about 45 mins from Bangkok. It is a very large market which is floating in that it is partly on a pontoon next to a canal, but it is not a floating market where you are on a boat and so are the sellers. It is very busy with local people but we saw very few foreigners. You walk through to get on a boat and take a ride around the canal which is very nice and interesting and the walk through the market again. We asked to stop for a bit and buy breakfast which was great to try different foods. The next market is very small and probably not worth the top - we only stayed for maybe 15 minutes. Our guide was very nice and pointed out some foods but didn’t explain about the history of the markets or Thai culture which would have been interesting. It was a nice way to spend the morning even if not quite what we expected.

nostalgia awaits!
What a great experience. This tour really allowed us to see how people from Thailand lived in their floating market world. It was spectacular. We loved all the hustle and bustle that was going on there. We took a canal boat ride first so we could see how the people brought their food to the market. Then we went to the beautiful smells of the food being sold and Cooked for us. The choices are limitless. Cindy, our guide helped us decide on some traditional items plus we sampled a few of our own. Come hungry because you will want to try everything! After our eating extravaganza we went to TalingChen market which was a much smaller street market but it gave you the neighborhood feel that you get from a hometown market. There were elder musicians playing lovely music. What a treat. We highly recommend you going on this tour ASAP because this style of living is fading with the younger generations. Don’t miss it!

Authentic Bangkok market experience
Picked up in air conditioned car out side hotel with cold water bottle awaiting me. English speaking guide was very informative and filled lots of holes in my limited knowledge of Bangkok and its history. Tour started with the canal boats and an exploration of the waterways surrounding Khlong Lat Mayom floating markets. Feilds of bananas, mangoes, apples were all shown and revered. Even saw several monitor lizards in the waterways. Returning to the market there were many choices for breakfast. And I mean many. Whatever you can think of it was there. An endless walk through the markets in pursuit of stomach filling goodness. Actually I gorged myself like a pig. Trying everything I could and then some. When I could hardly walk it was time to go to the second market Taling Chan. This market was a lot smaller but as my guide said it has different wares from the other. Similar to a region offering different delicacies this also didn’t disappoint. Live traditional music an added bonus. All in all a great tour that I would recommend to all. Thanks Bangkok!

Khlong with monitor lizards!
Great tour that gets you out of the city a bit. Had a good time and would recommend. Large part of what made my tour good was “sunny” the guide who spoke great English and was funny, smart, knowledgeable and personable. I saw monitor lizards too!

2 local markets outskirts of Bangkok + Boat ride in canals
This is a very good tour if you have already toured Bangkok and know the local foods. if this is your first tour in bangkok, you will be a bit disappointed as it will feel just as you are only going through the market... with no tastings and you will have to pay for every thing that you want to purchase and consistently ask "what is this"... I wished the tourguide had some elements to "discover" and pre-defined vendors to stop. but its really just walking around the 2 markets... the tourguide does not know anyone in the markets so it seems very non-personable (versus other tours we've taken where the guides know all the vendors). Tourguide is very positive and drives safely and is very knowledgeable only if you know which questions to ask because you need to extract the information from them. Boat ride was fun. overall a bit expensive for what this tour provided for.

Why this scores 54
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Bangkok.
How much does Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus) cost?
+
Prices start at $769 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Bangkok usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus) take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Bangkok is not rushed.
Is Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 14 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Bangkok, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus)?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus)?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Bangkok can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Bangkok and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Khlong Lat Mayom & Taling Chan Local Floating Markets Tour (SHA Plus) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Bangkok within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Bangkok?
+
On Outty we rank every Bangkok experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bangkok Backstreets Food Tour with 15+ Tastings, Old Siam Bangkok Food Tour with 15+ Tastings, Tingly Thai Cooking Class with Morning Market Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Bangkok?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Bangkok?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
