Join in on the annual Wreckers Race and take part in a fast pace race toward Sand Key Lighthouse aboard Schooner America 2.0! Back in the day, pirate ships from afar often ran aground on Sand Key Reef, nine miles off the southern coast of Key West. When all the sailors in Key West heard there was booty to be had, they'd get in their boats and race each other out to the reef. The first one there could claim the ship's cargo. Today, we celebrate it with the firing of the canon to start the race, and all of the schooners of Key West are on their way in a one-way race to Sand Key Lighthouse! The boat that gets there first, "wins"!

Sunset Pier
Guests aboard this sail will race toward Sand Key Lighthouse. A fast-paced and exciting race nine miles offshore into open water culminating in the rounding of the famed lighthouse. Winning the Wreckers Race was a great experience.
We had a wonderful cruise. Despite the calm wind,we managed to win the race dude to some tactical maneuvering by our Captain. The crew was friendly, attentive and helpful. The sandwiches were delicious and drills were plentiful. I thoroughly enjoyed being out on the water with this crew on this ship. I look forward to doing it again next year.

Great experience!
The experience aboard the America 2.0 Wreckers race was amazing. We had a great day for sailing which is required to really get the full experience. The lunch and drink options were great and the crew were amazing. I would highly recommend this booking.

Exciting Race
An exciting schooner race! Because of the wind and lean of the boat at times, I don’t recommend the schooner race for children— there were moments I had to hold on with both hands to keep from sliding off my seat. The food/drink service was excellent, and watching the crew hoist and navigate sails was fascinating. Most of all, I have high praise for our captain who won the race for us!

Great Sailing Trip
We were extremely fortunate to be able to join the crew of the Schooner America 2.0 for the Wreckers Race (Google it), on February 22nd. What a great time - and we won! In between their duties to keep us ahead in the race, they served us drinks and a great lunch. You don’t get to truly sail on most if any excursions, so it was a wonderful 3 hours of sailing, racing, and good times. Plan ahead - they only do the race four times a year, but I’m sure a regular sailing trip with them would be just as good of a time. Thanks to Captain Heather and all her crew who were awesome.

Go FAST on a great schooner in a real race!
The BEST way to experience sailing on a big schooner is to do the Wreckers Race on America 2.0, which often wins. You get to go so fast and experience the boat heeling up, plus lots of tacking and gybing to get in position for the start. It was a real thrill.
