On the way to Kazbegi, we stop at the picturesque Zhinvali Water Reservoir, and then visit the Ananuri Castle on the Aragvi River. The castle was the scene of numerous battles and served as a shelter for the local population during the wars. Ananuri is considered one of the most beautiful historical monuments of Georgia. At an altitude of 2200 meters above the sea level, on the southern side of the plateau of the Greater Caucasus Range, and near the Cross Pass, there is the Gudauri Ski resort. The Panorama Gudauri is a monument to celebrate the friendship between Georgia and Russia. Stepantsminda is a small town. The main attraction here is the Church of the Holy Trinity – the Gergeti Monastery that is located at an altitude of 2170 meters under the mountain pick of Kazbegi. Due to its location on the top of a steep mountain, surrounded by very harsh nature, the church became the symbol of preservation of the Georgian relics.

Ananuri fortress complex
Ananuri fortress dates to XVI-XVIII centuries and it is situated on the foreland by the river Aragvi. Ananuri was a castle and seat of the Eristavis (Dukes) of Aragvi, a feudal dynasty which ruled the area from the 13th century. The castle was the scene of numerous battles. This is a perfect place for landscape photography, there are amazingly beautiful views of the fortress and Jinvali reservoir together. The fortress remained in use until the beginning of the 19th century. In 2007, the complex has been on the tentative list for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Site program.

Gergeti Trinity Church
Gergeti Trinity Church is a popular name for Holy Trinity Church near Gergeti village. The church's location is the right bank of the Chkheri river under Kazbegi Mountain, 2170 meters above sea level. Gergeti Trinity Church was built in the 14th century, and this is the only cross-cupola church in Khevi province. In times of danger, precious relics from Mtskheta, including Saint Nino’s Cross, were brought here for safekeeping. During the Soviet Era, soviets prohibited religious services, but the church remained a popular tourist destination. The church is an active establishment of the Georgian Orthodox and Apostolic Church. You will get an epic panoramic view of the whole valley from the church. Due to the church’s isolation in the steep mountainous area full of nature remains Georgia's most iconic tourist attraction. You will be impressed with the view of Mount Kazbegi, which is 5047 meters above sea level.

Poor time management on the tour
I give 2 stars as something they did very good was the grouping of the people, I met some fantastic people during the tour. The tour was poorly managed from a time perspective. A lot of people were late in the morning and we left with a 30-40 minutes delay. Not long after leaving we stopped somewhere outside the city, useless stop if you ask me as we had just have left and I believe people should bring snacks with them. I chose this tour over another one as it was advertised as a 9hour tour (not sure if it’s the platform’s fault or the tour operator’s). It was at least 13 hours. I would have understood 11 as you cannot predict traffic, road construction etc but the delay was not fully because of that. The main reason I booked this tour was the Gudauri monument/view point. Because of the delays, by the time we returned to it, it was already dark outside and of course there was not reason to stop anymore. I wish I had booked the other tour. I met amazing people and the guide was nice, offering a lot of interesting details, introducing us to Georgian music etc. But the way the time and stops were managed was not ok. I wanted to see one thing from the whole trip and I didn’t get to see it. I basically wasted one day when I could have done anything else.

Good road to Kazbegi
Guide Omari and driver Vako is a good team. The road to Kazbegi is pretty hard but it was safe and interesting with them. The stories about places we met on our road were amazing. Recommend it!
