We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion well worth the experience

Avoid and spend your money on something something worthwhile

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING and, in my experience, nothing like the activity I thought I had booked. I specifically booked this because it is advertised as “Kayak & Snorkeling Tour in Caves in Gran Canaria.” The booking itself also described it as “Kayak in caves and beaches.” Caves—not cave. I travelled all the way from Las Palmas, spent roughly €30 on transport and around €70 on accommodation specifically so I could do this excursion. The caves were the entire reason I chose it. What did we actually get? We went a very short distance into ONE cave, stayed there for what felt like about two minutes, and came straight back out. There was no meaningful cave exploration whatsoever. As for the advertised snorkelling, the guide advised us that we could snorkel if we wanted to, but that the conditions were so bad we wouldn’t actually be able to see anything. Unsurprisingly, we chose not to get into the water to “snorkel” when the guide had effectively told us there was nothing to see. Instead, an enormous proportion of the excursion was simply paddling. By the end our arms were so exhausted that it affected what we were able to do afterwards on our holiday. Had this been advertised to me as a strenuous kayaking excursion with a very brief visit to the entrance of one cave and a beach stop, I would never have booked it. The guides themselves were friendly, and I want to make that absolutely clear. My complaint is not about them personally. My problem is with how the experience was sold and how the company handled the situation afterwards. When I complained, the company actually confirmed to me in writing that under normal conditions they usually visit THREE caves, but that conditions that day meant the guides considered the other caves unsafe to access. That is precisely my problem. If two of the three caves cannot safely be visited, and conditions are also poor enough that the advertised snorkelling is effectively not worthwhile, customers should be told before setting off and given the opportunity to reschedule or cancel. Instead, we weren’t given that choice. The company decided that because it was still safe to kayak, enough of the activity remained to proceed. But I didn’t travel across Gran Canaria and pay for accommodation because I desperately wanted several hours of paddling. I booked a “Kayak & Snorkeling Tour in Caves.” Their response regarding the snorkelling was particularly frustrating. They told me that nobody actually prevented us from snorkelling: the conditions simply “were not ideal” and therefore not doing it was our choice. Technically, perhaps. But when your own guides indicate that conditions are so poor that attempting the advertised activity is essentially pointless, presenting the customer’s decision not to do it as simply their “choice” completely misses the point. I initially asked for only a 50% refund, which I thought was a very reasonable compromise considering that major advertised elements of the excursion weren’t delivered as expected. Their response was to offer me 25% as a goodwill refund. For our £74.60 booking, that amounted to roughly £19. After travelling from Las Palmas, paying for buses and accommodation specifically for this excursion, and discovering on the water that two of the three caves the company itself says it normally visits couldn’t safely be entered, that offer honestly felt insulting rather than conciliatory. What makes this particularly difficult to accept is that this wasn’t a situation where the entire excursion suddenly became impossible. The company says the guides knew the conditions were unsuitable for accessing two caves but suitable for kayaking. In other words, they knew during the excursion that a substantial part of what attracted us to the tour wasn’t going to happen. Safety absolutely comes first. I would NEVER expect a guide to enter a cave they considered unsafe. But safety isn’t an excuse for poor communication. If conditions mean the advertised experience has to be substantially changed, tell customers and give them a choice. Don’t simply replace the missing parts with considerably more kayaking and afterwards argue that technically the excursion still went ahead. The company eventually told me they considered the matter closed and would no longer communicate about it. So here is my experience for prospective customers instead: If you’re booking this specifically because you want to explore caves and snorkel, be aware that you may end up doing neither in any meaningful sense, while the excursion still proceeds because conditions remain suitable for kayaking. Had somebody explained that possibility clearly to me beforehand—or simply said that morning, “Unfortunately we can only safely access one of the three caves today and snorkelling conditions are poor; would you like to continue, reschedule or cancel?”—I would have had absolutely no complaint. Instead, I spent a substantial amount of money getting there for an experience whose main attractions, from my perspective, largely didn’t happen, and was then offered approximately £19 back. The guides were nice. The beach was nice. But the experience I received was absolutely not worth the journey, accommodation, money or physical effort, and the company’s handling of a perfectly reasonable complaint made the whole thing significantly worse. I wish I had spent the day—and my money—elsewhere.

    Very nice tour and very...

Very nice tour and very nice guides. Good kayaks, good group size and it was nice to go in the caves. We saw a several fish during snorkeling. Snack was a fitness bar, could have been something else.

    kayaking and snorkeling

The old snorkeling masks spoiled the impression a bit; it was difficult to see the fish through them.

How much does Kayak & Snorkeling Tour in Caves in Gran Canaria cost?

Is Kayak & Snorkeling Tour in Caves in Gran Canaria worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 186 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Gran Canaria, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

    +

Around 65 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Gran Canaria?

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Gran Canaria?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
