Johnston Canyon Falls - Well Worth the Time to See Both Lower and Upper Falls

Johnston Canyon offers hikes to both the lower falls (about .5 miles one way up hill from the parking lot but on fairly even solid ground) as well as the upper falls (an additional 1 mile one way also up hill) but I’d classify both as moderate hikes. At the lower falls you can view the falls from above and off to the side as well as right in front you can also wait in line across a bridge and get up close even to get wet from the falls through a small cave (standing heights). The line from the end of the bridge probably will take a good 20 minutes of waiting and if up the hill part way, it can take as long as an hour. While a neat perspective, I’d recommend bypassing the cave view and go up to the upper falls instead. The upper falls are worth going to and you’ll get to see about 4-5 smaller but pretty falls on the way to them.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of Johnston Canyon! It sounds like you made the most of the trail and enjoyed both the lower and upper falls. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and helpful tips for other visitors. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Rockies!
