Exceptional Food and Even Better Company

This cooking class was such a wonderful experience from start to finish. The host made us feel completely at home, as if we were gathered in her kitchen with a mother teaching her daughters how to cook family recipes. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and incredibly personal. Not only was the food absolutely exceptional, but the stories she shared throughout the class made the experience even more memorable. She taught us about the different spices, explained the significance of various dishes, and shared insights into her culture in a way that was both educational and entertaining. Her sense of humor had us laughing the entire time. What stood out most was how genuine and lovely she was as a host. You could truly feel the passion and love she puts into both her cooking and sharing her traditions with others. The food alone would be enough reason to return, but honestly, the company and experience were even better. I would absolutely take another class with her and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic, delicious, and unforgettable experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the review. I also enjoyed having you as a guest, and I am thankful that you bravely enjoyed something new to you, and have experienced my love and passion for cooking natural food.. I equally appreciated your participation like a daughter or a close friend. Truly loved the time together, and your help in cooking. Looking forward to the next time!

Nalini's Indian Cooking Class: A Hands-On Journey Through Authentic Flavors

I had the pleasure of attending Nalini's first Indian cooking class hosted at a cozy Chicago condo and it was an absolutely delightful experience! Nalini came all the way from Grand Rapids to share her culinary expertise and it was worth every moment. The evening began with a warming cup of authentic Indian chai, which was exactly what I needed to soothe my allergies and clear a mild headache. It set the perfect tone for what was to follow. The menu was a beautiful spread of authentic Indian food including mashed potatoes Indian style, rajma, okra, karela, coconut milk rice and chicken masala as the non-vegetarian highlight. It all started with a perfect cup of Indian chai (tea) that I abso I got to chop vegetables and make raita which made me feel like a real part of the cooking process. She even made fresh rotis and had us all participate in flattening them out, such a fun hands on touch! She explained all the spices in her spice box and how and why to use them in a specific manner. The pleasure of learning hands on in real time is something no cookbook or video can replicate. Watching techniques come alive right in front of you, absorbing the instincts behind each step, understanding the why behind every spice and method, this is how cooking knowledge has been passed down through generations. The red wine flowing throughout made the atmosphere even more warm and convivial. What made this class extra special was the connection it awakened in me. Being in a kitchen learning from Nalini brought back beautiful memories of cooking alongside my mom, dad and aunts, absorbing their tricks and traditions. That sense of intergenerational Indian cooking wisdom passed through hands not just words was truly heartwarming. The atmosphere was fun, loving and genuinely interesting, a perfect blend of learning and laughter. I discovered this class through Sarala Terpstra's Instagram, whose wonderful book Vegan French Favorites I already own and treasure, and I am so glad I did. If this was Nalini's first class I can only imagine how wonderful future ones will be! Highly recommend to anyone who loves authentic Indian food and a home cooking lesson directly from an expert! I followed Nalini on Instagram at @nalinisindiankichen to learn about future classes.
