Best Tours in South Dakota!
I can’t say enough about Daniel and our tours! We did a three day tour so we could see all the sites. Daniel was the perfect guide! He is so knowledgeable about everything! He has the best info and stories and really knows his stuff. We had so much fun with him and Amiee (Daniels mom and office mgr) and was sad to see our 3 days finished. I could go on about all of the sites but I will talk about the Badlands tour! It was absolutely amazing! Daniel brought us in a different way and we had so much fun seeing all of the animals and the beauty. We had a sunset picnic out on the rocks and then laid back in zero gravity chairs with blankets (Daniel has everything you need) and watched the beautiful night sky. I have never seen such beauty! We saw the constellation s, Milky way and at least a dozen shooting stars. It was the perfect night. Daniel goes out of his way to make everything perfect! I can’t finish this review without talking about Amiee. When I called to book she was a wealth of information about where to stay, eat, ect. Daniel and Aimee were so awesome I feel like we’re leaving having made friends we will never forget. They made us feel so comfortable. These tours are a must when visiting South Dakota because Daniel does all the work for you and you leave knowing more about the areas than you could imagine.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful review. I can’t tell you how much it means to hear that your three-day South Dakota adventure left such a lasting impression. From the Black Hills to the Badlands, it’s a place that surprises people in the best way, and it was a joy to explore it together. That evening in the Badlands is one I’ll never forget either—the colors, the quiet, the sky full of stars. It’s one of those moments that reminds me why I love guiding and why South Dakota is such a special place to visit. I’m really glad you felt that too. Amiee and I loved getting to know you both. She has such a gift for helping travelers feel at home before the journey even begins, and it’s always a treat to watch it all come together on the road. We try to make every My XO Adventures tour personal, easy, and full of discovery, so hearing that it felt that way for you means the world. Thank you again for choosing My XO Adventures and for taking the time to share your experience. You’ll always have friends here in South Dakota, and we’d love to welcome you back for another adventure, maybe even under those same stars. Warm regards, Daniel My XO Adventures – Authentic South Dakota Tours, Badlands Stargazing & Beyond

A Thoughtful Tour of the Black Hills and the Badlands
I’d never been to the Black Hills or the South Dakota Badlands before and went in without a clear idea of what to see. My guide Daniel (also the owner of the company) thoughtfully provided a wide-ranging itinerary (I was with him for three days) that covered not only the major landmarks but also back road sites I never would have discovered on my own. Daniel takes great care in planning the day’s itinerary. He doesn’t just go from point A to point B—he considers how and when to arrive at each location to maximize the visual impact of the site being visited and to avoid crowds. He was adept at selecting scenic routes that don’t follow the typical tour path. He also seemed to know where best to spot wildlife - we had great sightings of bison, bighorn sheep, and mountain goats (and of course prairie dogs). His knowledge of the area, combined with his thoughtful route planning and pleasure at being able to share his love of the area, made for very enjoyable days.
Response from the operator: Thanks for choosing My XO Adventures and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We plan every tour around timing and routes for a reason—it makes a difference when you hit a viewpoint at the right moment and aren’t standing shoulder to shoulder with a busload of folks. I’m glad you enjoyed the mix of landmarks and off-the-beaten-path spots; that balance is part of what makes the Black Hills and Badlands so special. Seeing bison, bighorn sheep and mountain goats up close is a real treat—though I have to admit, the prairie dogs might still be the real rock stars. Thanks again for trusting me with three days of your trip and for appreciating the thought that goes into making each day memorable. Hope to see you back in the Hills!

Yes to South Dakota!
My group decided hands down that My XO Adventures was the best tour experience we could have ever had. Their attention to our interests and comfort was unparalleled. Their ability to adjust our itinerary on the fly based on weather allowed us to be at the right place at exactly the right time. It goes without staying that they are knowledgeable on so many topics but what was so appreciated was that the commentary was interactive and we weren’t just lectured. We loved the road less travelled that we often took. You cannot go wrong. We recommend My XO Adventures for an individually tailored tour that will knock your socks off.
Response from the operator: Thanks so much Cathy!! It means the world to us that you both felt this was the best tour experience you could’ve had. We put a lot of heart into every adventure, and hearing that you noticed our flexibility, knowledge, and attention to your comfort is everything. We love taking guests off the beaten path, sharing stories, and making it feel more like traveling with a friend than being lectured on a bus. Your kind words and recommendation are deeply appreciated, and we hope to welcome you back to the Black Hills and Badlands someday! With gratitude, Daniel and the My XO Adventures Team

Bucket list South Dakota
Daniel made our 3 day trip fantastic! He took note of our interests and customized it down to the last detail. We got to go places that we never would have imagined, like searching for beautiful rocks outside of the Badlands Park. I highly recommend booking with MyXO Adventures.
Response from the operator: Mary, thank you so much for your excellent review! It was so much fun customizing your three-day adventure. Making sure every moment reflects your interests is a trick, and some don't even realize it's being done. Like rockhounding at the agate fields! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Your recommendation means a lot, and I’d love to show you even more hidden gems whenever you’re ready for another adventure.

Why this scores 60
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rapid City.
How much does Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $1995 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rapid City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour take?
+
Plan for about 72 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rapid City is not rushed.
Is Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rapid City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 72-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rapid City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rapid City and add a light layer if any part of the 72-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Icons of the West: Black Hills & Badlands 3-Day Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rapid City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rapid City?
+
Rapid City is the base for Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse tours, Badlands National Park loops, Custer State Park wildlife drives and Black Hills cave visits. On Outty we rank every Rapid City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mount Rushmore and Black Hills Tour with Two Meals and a Music Variety Show, Bus Tour of Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills, PREMIER PRIVATE Tour: Mt Rushmore, CrazyHorse & Custer State Park. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rapid City?
+
May to September, with Sturgis crowding early August. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rapid City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
