Rushed tour , poor value for the high cost. Much better options elsewhere

Although the husky dog ride was awesome and the owners of the dogs very nice and enjoyable to talk to (as well as informative!) the tour felt very rushed . No one took us to hunt for northern lights (even though it was a very active night for the lights that night) which was 100% supposed to be included. This tour was nearly $600 for me and my husband and we used other tour companies for MUCH less on this trip who spent over 8 hours hunting with us AND included professional picture in the price (for around $90 a person) . Very disappointed . The price was much too high for the short experience (and the advertising is VERY misleading) Coming from a very experienced traveler, having booked MANY if these type tours, I do NOT recommend.

    A complete rip off

£191.20 PER PERSON- for a 13 minute husky sleigh ride, followed by being led to a small kuta (hut with a fire place) so the guides could talk along themselves with 2 or 3 groups of people wedged into a small hut. The guides made absolutely no effort to then go and try and see the northern lights, you pay £191.20 per person for a 13 minute sleigh ride, the dogs were great but for a 3.5 hr tour I expected a lot more, so many other guides offer this experience but for a lot better value for money; please do your research before making the same mistake we did. A complete rip off.

Response from the operator: Dear Jules, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. The duration of the husky sleigh ride can vary depending on the dogs' pace, but please note that the overall tour duration includes not only the ride but also the time for the journey, safety instructions, and the opportunity to enjoy the surroundings. We always strive to offer memorable tours, and we appreciate your comments, as they help us identify areas for improvement. Your input is valuable, and thanks to it, we can continue to enhance our services for future guests. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Best regards,

    Don’t fall for it!

It’s terrible. Don’t fall for it. DO NOT do both things below : book through Nordic and go for this scamming activity. This was what happened: 1. It was not magical as it described on the website. We were being brought to a “husky farm” after about 40min coach ride. There wasn’t a proper toilet for guests to use before or after the husky ride. 2. There was no proper briefing to tell you what to expect during the ride. No talking to you about the life of the huskies. Most of the dogs don’t look like husky at all. They looked really like mongrels. 3. We were hurried to the sled after some hot berry juice in the tipi. 4. The dogs ran for about 4km to 5km to “chase” the northern lights. Which there were nothing to see although the sky were clear. The guide driving the sled did not stop at any point at all to allow us to see if there are activities in the sky. 5. After the ride, came down from the sled and we were asked to return to the coach. 6. At this point, the co-guide told us that they will bring us to try to catch aurora at a nearby forest area. 7. The bus wanted to turn into the forest area (there were many other tour buses already there), but Massi, the main guide stopped the driver and told him that Nordic office instructed him to return to the office. 8. We then asked Massi why. He gave a few crappy reasons. He said A) We already caught the aurora earlier during the husky ride, so there wasn’t a need to continue the chase. B) the tour we booked is only for 5km distance which already covered by the husky. This was rubbish. C) We paid lower price package. Again it’s rubbish because we paid 189 Euros! Guys, if you are reading this. Please do not fall for the description. We had done top notch Husky ride experience in another city in Finland. This offered by Nordic was the worst experience we had in Finland. Nordic offered us some refunds but offered zero explanation on why they screwed up our tour experience.

Response from the operator: Dear Denise, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We truly appreciate you taking the time to write about your experience. We’re sorry to hear that the husky tour did not meet your expectations. We take all feedback seriously, especially regarding the points you mentioned about the ride and the lack of information about the dogs. We aim to provide guests with a well-rounded experience, including a clear briefing and insights into the huskies' lives. Regarding the tour's timing and the decision to return to the office, we always aim to give our guests the best possible opportunity to view the northern lights when conditions are favorable. However, we understand that our actions may not have aligned with your expectations, and we apologize for the confusion this caused. We also want to clarify that the details of the tours, including pricing and activities, are communicated transparently. If there was any misunderstanding regarding the inclusions or the experience, we sincerely apologize for any frustration this may have caused. Your feedback is invaluable, and it will help us improve our services moving forward. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience, and we truly hope we can provide you with a better experience in the future. Best regards,

    The tour guide that...

The tour guide that brought us to the husky place was good despite we did not manage to catch the northern lights. Special credit to the musher who took us for the husky ride was patient and explained to us on the different characteristics of the dogs and the different role that each dog has. However the owner that greeted us at the husky place is kind of hostile and bad attitude.

Hunting Northern Lights with Husky: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rovaniemi.

How much does Hunting Northern Lights with Husky cost?

    +

Prices start at $271 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rovaniemi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Hunting Northern Lights with Husky take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rovaniemi is not rushed.

Is Hunting Northern Lights with Husky worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 109 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rovaniemi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Hunting Northern Lights with Husky?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Hunting Northern Lights with Husky suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Hunting Northern Lights with Husky?

    +

Around 38 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rovaniemi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rovaniemi and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Hunting Northern Lights with Husky start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rovaniemi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rovaniemi?

    +

On Outty we rank every Rovaniemi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Rovaniemi: Guaranteed Viewing & Unlimited Mileage, Rovaniemi: Korouoma Canyon & Frozen Waterfalls Tour with BBQ, Rovaniemi:%100 Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunt&Free Photos. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rovaniemi?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rovaniemi?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
