Bonne visite We were very impressed by our tour of Alcatraz Island prison. Visiting Alcatraz is truly a moving experience; it's both sad and intriguing. Our boat trip took about 20 minutes to Alcatraz Island. Visitors are asked to wear a mask while visiting the prison. The visit inside was well organized, and the story is perfectly told and put into context with the help of an audio guided tour in many languages including French. Be aware that Alcatraz Island is only accessible by a single ferry company, but Alcatraz tickets often sell out weeks, sometimes months in advance. If you haven't booked your Alcatraz tickets in advance, this tour operator offers guided tours of San Francisco combined with Alcatraz. We were lucky to find tickets to Alcatraz at the last minute thanks to this company.

Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you for your review regarding our Alcatraz tours. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Alcatraz experience in the San Francisco Bay Area. Happy Holidays! Thank you, Victor Help Desk

Big Redwoods and an excellent horseback ride on the beach for our whole family!

Even though the wooded trails were a bit wet for us to ride due to the fog, but the experience was amazing, and we all enjoyed it very much. The horses looked happy, well cared for- these were some of the best-behaved horses we’ve ever interacted with, and the staff was very friendly. It didn’t take us too long to reach a laid-back beach, so peaceful and beautiful. After the horseback ride , our fun and very nice tour guide drove us to Santa Cruz where we had Lunch in a restaurant located on the Wharf. We ordered a seafood platter, it was fresh and yummy, and the views made it the perfect location for our family. For me personally, the highlight of our adventure was our tour of a beautiful forest of big redwood trees in Santa Cruz mountains. I’ve been to Muir Woods before, but this state park was less crowded and the redwood trees are much bigger and older in this forest. On the way back to our hotel in San Francisco, the tour guide made a quick stop at Apple new headquarter in Silicon Valley. We visited the visitor center and the store (while our son was sneaking out to fly his drone over Apple new campus “it looks like a spaceship from the sky”.) We highly recommend this outdoor adventure and this business. Kelly Sp, Baltimore, Maryland

awesome horseback ride on the beach and Alcatraz tour

An awesome horseback ride on the beach and Alcatraz tour We got desperate as we couldn’t get our hands-on Alcatraz tickets. Alcatraz island tour and ferry tickets were sold out when we tried to book them online (6 weeks in advance). We tried every tour company in san fran, but no luck, until we landed on alcatraztoursf, and they made our day, we couldn’t believe it. We had to book a combo tour to get our hands-on Alcatraz prison tickets, we signed up for a horseback ride on the beach, it took place in halfmoon bay, it’s was a cool day but worth it. The scenery along pacific coast highway 1 is breathtaking. This tour company is very reliable, and their tour guide Mary was amazing! We felt like we had a friend in town, it was more than a tour, a real and fun experience. She even drove us through the Golden Gate Park, we stopped for a snack and beer tasting at the beach chalet, an ocean front restaurant with stunning view of the ocean and the beach. Highly recommend

Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Francisco.

How much does Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets cost?

    +

Prices start at $1049 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Francisco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets take?

    +

Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Francisco is not rushed.

Is Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 41 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in San Francisco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Francisco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Francisco and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Horseback Ride & Alcatraz Prison Tickets start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Francisco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in San Francisco?

    +

San Francisco packs Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Napa and the bay into day-trip range, which makes booking order matter more than anywhere else in the US. Alcatraz sells out weeks ahead, wine-country vans fill on weekends, and the best food walks in the Mission and Chinatown cap at a dozen people. Our ranking favours small groups and guides who live in the neighbourhood they walk. On Outty we rank every San Francisco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small Group Yosemite and Giant Sequoias Day Trip from San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge Muir Woods Sausalito with Optional Alcatraz, Chinatown, North Beach, Little Italy: 7 Tastings & History. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit San Francisco?

    +

September and October, the city's real summer, once the fog season breaks. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in San Francisco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
