    Exploring Northern Ethiopia

We spent 16 amazing days with Abebe as our tour guide, exploring the north of Ethiopia. Starting at Danakil Depression including volcano Erta Ale and Dalol with it‘s colourful landscape was a great experience. We continued with the Gheralta region and it‘s beautiful churches in the rocks, followed by historic Aksum, Bahir Dar and Blue Nil waterfalls and Lake Tana, Gondar and 2 hiking days in Simien Nationalpark and lastly Lalibela with it‘s underground churches. We were lucky to explore the most important world heritages in Ethiopia and many historical sites. Abebe was always reliable and took good care of our safety. He is very knowledgable in religious backgrounds and historic data, speaks fluent German and even other languages like English and Italian. It was absolutely great to have Abebe as our permanent guide as we always could be sure that the program of the day has been organised well to get the most out of it. Also the additional people required for driving or cooking when we were camping were great and provided excellent food even in very simple locations. We enjoyed each single day and can fully recommend Abebe as a tour guide in Ethiopia thanks for a great experience!!!

Response from the operator: Vielen Dank Ilka für deine unerlässliche Rückmeldung und Wünsche ich dir viel glück

    Memorable Addis Ababa City Tour

Last week I experienced a great Addis Ababa city tour. We visited the Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Ethnological Museum, the historic train station and many other interesting sights in Ethiopia’s capital. Abebe organized the tour short notice since I found time for the tour relatively spontaneously. Everything worked out very well, incl. the pick-up, lunch and transport. A special thanks to my guide Bekele who was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the sights and Ethiopia in general.

    amazing

This was a magical journey. Following this travel agency, I experienced an unforgettable Ethiopian history, religion, culture and nature tour, especially the mountain plateau hike, which was particularly surprising! Our tour guide Abebe accompanied us throughout the journey. Not only did we learn about culture and food, but we also learned about ancient Christianity, especially the stories of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon in the Bible! I will definitely come again if I have the chance!

Exciting and impressive country and people

It was a great trip. The country is very exciting and incredibly diverse. The people are impressive. At 5 a.m. in the morning, we could see how many were walking to the service, all dressed in white. In addition impressive churches and also the landscape is very worth seeing. Our guide explained everything well and pointed out small special features. I particularly liked the coffee ceremony.

    Great travel guide!!

Abebe recommended me and then contacted him. He picked us up from the airport and organized a trip to Addis Ababa the following day with a private driver. We saw everything and Abebe knew the answer to every question. We also felt very safe with Abebe in Africa's largest market, Mercato. The lunch, coffee and juices were very delicious. Too bad we were only with Abebe for a short time, hopefully again soon ☺️

Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ): questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Addis Ababa.

How much does Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) cost?

    +

Prices start at $55 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Addis Ababa usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) take?

    +

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Addis Ababa is not rushed.

Is Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Addis Ababa, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa )?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa )?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Addis Ababa can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Addis Ababa and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Addis Ababa within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Addis Ababa?

    +

On Outty we rank every Addis Ababa experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Addis Ababa Authentic Private City Tour, Addis Ababa Guided City Tour With Airport & Hotel Pick Up, Full Day Tour of Addis Ababa with Hotel Pickup and Drop-off. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Addis Ababa?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Addis Ababa?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa )?

    +

Included: Other; In-vehicle air conditioning; and Guides. Not included: Lunch. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.

Does Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) include hotel pickup?

    +

Yes, pickup is offered, or you can meet at the start point instead from 6 listed pickup locations in and around Addis Ababa. Be ready about 30 minutes before the start time.

What languages is Historic Abyssinia Travel(Addis Ababa ) offered in?

    +

It is offered in German, English and Italian. Pick your language when choosing a date and time, as not every departure runs in every language.
