About this experience
This is a local gem, a secret corner of the Sierra Madre where the river is still wild and the jungle is alive. The walk is beautiful from start to finish: among giant trees, palm trees and sounds of the mountain. What makes it unique is peace. There are no crowds here, just you, the river and nature. It's a bird watching paradise. Dozens of endemic and tropical species sing and fly free around you. The waterfall is spectacular, the kind that looks like something out of a movie. You can swim in crystal clear waters, dive into the pools and just relax. It is a place with a lot of life and energy.

Real nature and a 10/10 guide
Que bonito! What a beautiful hike to an even more beautiful swimming hole and waterfall. Even though you’re only 30 minutes from PV, this tour transports you into a lush, remote jungle surrounded by mountains. The hike is challenging but worth it. There are plenty of places along the way to stop and enjoy the scenery and listen for birds. The hike ends at a swimming hole with warm water and giant granite rocks to jump from. Laying on the these giant rocks, surrounded by the mountains and the trees, soaking up the sun was one of the highlights of my trip to Mexico. Read the other reviews and you’ll see that the guide, Elian, is what makes this tour really above and beyond. He takes the time to get to know you, points out highlights and loose rocks along the way, and brings so much joy to the whole experience. It’s easy to see that this is a special place that he loves to share with others. He even filled up his backpack with bottles and cans on the hike back to throw away back in town. If you are looking for a truly natural experience in Mexico with a guide who will go out of his way to make it unforgettable, book this tour.

Excellent experience
I found a very beautiful hike with an incredible view of the mountains, we had to see macaws and an owl. On the hike we saw many places to swim where back from the hike we stopped to swim! Guide Elian made me and my partner feel comfortable 10/10

Have Fun!
The truth is that Guide Elian gave me a lot of confidence and confidence. A very safe and calm vibe, you relax, laugh, the road is very enjoyable when you have someone who takes you and you can live and have a lot of fun. I really loved it. I want to come back, it was an experience I would love to repeat. I highly recommend them. :) Have fun!

BEST EVER!!!
Absolutely fabulous. The tour guide was knowledgeable , fun and funny (and cute) and we stopped for fresh coconut cocktails, which was the BEST DRINK I'VE EVER HAD! You can only get to these communities by boat so it feels very authentic - not your usual whitewashed tour with someone screaming on the bus asking if we're having a good time. If there were more stars to give, I'd give them.

A perfect day in nature
We were on a cruise that stopped in PV and did this tour. It was an amazing day. Our guide was knowledgeable about the area. The swimming hole was pure magic. It was nice to get out of the city and be in nature with nobody else around. I highly recommend this tour and we would 100% do it again.

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Puerto Vallarta.
How much does Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental cost?
+
Prices start at $649 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Puerto Vallarta usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Puerto Vallarta is not rushed.
Is Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Puerto Vallarta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Puerto Vallarta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Puerto Vallarta and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Hiking trail : Waterfall in the Sierra Madre Occidental start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Puerto Vallarta within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Puerto Vallarta?
+
On Outty we rank every Puerto Vallarta experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Winner 2026 Downtown Vallarta Food Tour with Vallarta Food Tours, Signature Taco Tour in PV with Vallarta Eats, Food & Mixology Tour:Tequila,Tacos, Mezcal and Agave Cocktails. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Puerto Vallarta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Puerto Vallarta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
