Behind the basilica is the Prytaneion, where religious ceremonies , official receptions and banquets were held. The sacred flame symbolizing the heart of Ephesus was kept constantly alight in the Prytaneion. The construction of the building dates to the 3rd century B.C, during the reign of Lysimachos, but the ruins of the complex dates to the Augustan age. The four-cornered pit in which the sacred fire is burned is a relic from the reign of Lysimachos. The front of the building is four columns, beyond the columns is a courtyard surrounded by a portico, and on the north is the center of the building, the ceremonial hall, and its side rooms. The eternal flame was here in the center of the ceremonial hall, the red color on the floor determined the location of the flame. The double columns on the corners of the hall held up the wooden roof. During excavations, archeologists found 2 artemis statues, which are now presented in Ephesus museum.

    5. Temple of Domitian

Located to the south end of the Domitian Street, it is the first structure in Ephesus known to be dedicated to an emperor. It was built on a high and wide terrace set by 50x100 meters in size, on vaulted foundations. The northern size of the terrace seems to be two-stories high, reached by stairs. The stairs are still visible today. The temple, built in pro-style plan, had eight columns on the short side and thirteen columns on the long side, and four additional columns in front of the cella. At the northern side there was an u-shaped altar, which is now displayed in Izmir museum. It was in the reign of Domitian that an emperor gave permission to built an Emperor Temple; that is the permission to be the 'neocoros' for the first time, which was a great honor for a city. When the unpopular emperor was killed by his servant, public quickly took vengeance and erased his name from many inscriptions.

EXCELLENT - I don't know how they do it for the money, much cheaper than the cruise excursion

EXCELLENT! I don't know how they do it for the money, much cheaper than the cruise excursion and one to one service. We were collected at the port in a Mercedes luxury taxi van and supplied with water bottles. Jada, the guide, introduced herself and our driver and we set off to our first destination. On the way we chatted about Turkey and a career as a tour guide as well as an introduction to the sites we would be seeing. Jada was attentive to what we were looking at and always there to provide information. But she also gave us time to wander about on our own and discover the sites. She was extreremly knowledgable of Ephesus and the house of Mary.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience with us! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your tour and found it to be a great value compared to cruise excursions. It's fantastic that Jada provided you with attentive service and shared her extensive knowledge of Ephesus and the House of Mary. We always strive to offer a personalized experience, and it sounds like Jada did just that by balancing guided information with time for exploration. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure in the future! Best Regards Turkey Tours Company

    Ephesus in a day

Umut and Eve picked us up in Selcuk and took us around for the day. Ephesus is great as-is but Umut really brought things to life. Nice sense of humor and great English. Would probably skip the lunch but otherwise recommended.

Response from the operator: Thank you for share your experience about our Agency. It's a great pleasure for us to hear that you enjoyed your trip with TURKEY TOURS COMPANY. Your feedbacks always motivate us to serve you better. We are looking forward to see you again.

Good tour... extra’s not so great.

Me and my dad did this tour together, we were the only ones that booked so it turned into a ‘private tour’. All in all it was a good experience and will recommend it. The guide is very friendly and knowledgeable. Could communicate well in english. The transportation was good and on time too, no problems. My only concern was that we were taken to a leather ‘factory shop’ where a fashion show was presented and we were very uncomfortably approached to buy very expensive leather goods. I don’t like tourist traps like this, it added a bit of a bad vibe to the tour. Lunch was also very average and not appetizing.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your review . That day we had only 2 people for the tour ,instead of cancelation we would like to organize that tour and it woudnt be so nice to cancel last minute. About leather factor or other shops ,this is all over the world same for agencies to stops for clients but i will talk about with factory to approach against you and tell them more carefully for next time. It was great to make tour with you. Have a good day
