Some stunning scenery, with various stops along the way - good food
Monday 20th April we booked ourselves on an organised Tour in a 4 x 4 of the High Atlas Mountains. Included in the Tour was Berber breakfast and lunch and other itinerary stops. We booked the Tour through the Tui Rep in our Hotel, Riu Tikida Palace Taghazout, the Operator was Tui Destination Services Morocco and the transport was provided by Ouhaddou Transport It was a bit of an early start with a pick up time of 08.00 am. Initially we were not too impressed as the vehicle was not big enough for four passengers. One in the front was ok but three in the back did not work. The middle passenger was squeezed in between the other two and sitting on their seat belt locks on either side, was not looking forward to the trip. Our driver Hassan no english, some how we communicated and it was fine. We drove for about 25 minutes to a meeting point where we met our English speaking Guide Rashid. Other groups on the Tour also met up here. It was here that our seating problem was resolved, the other two people realised that they were in the wrong group, they were booked on the German speaking Tour. Once they were relocated to the correct Tour, there was only the two of us in the vehicle, bliss. The Tour then began and we drove for about thirty minutes to the first stop for a Berber breakfast. This was at the Berber Women's Co-operative, Coeur de Nature in Aourir, reviewed separately. We also had a demonstration of the production of Argan oil and the opportunity to purchase the products. We drove for sometime through the striking mountainous terrain which at times was arid and barren. We stopped a number of times at various viewpoints to enjoy panoramic views across the Atlas Mountains. We did stop again at Immouzer so that we could see the waterfall (reviewed as Cascadses) at Immouzer, from a distance. From there we drove to the restaurant for our lunch stop of the Tour, the restaurant, Restaurant Tikida D'aqesri, is reviewed separately. When lunch was over our Tour resumed and we started the final elements of theTour. This included driving byParadise Valley. We also stopped to see La Palmeraie de Tamzargot (reviewed separately) As we drove along we did have a bonus of seeing a herd (caravan) of camels along the roadside. We were back at our Hotel mid-afternoon, having seen some wonderful scenery, good food and memorable experiences. Don't think we would have enjoyed the Tour as much, if four adults had remained in the vehicle that was not big enough.
