About this experience
Wear your Augmented Reality smart glasses and enjoy a unique, innovative, and immersive walking tour at the archaeological site of Herculaneum. Travel back to 79 AC and see what Herculaneum's squares and houses looked like before being destroyed in a volcanic eruption. Meet your Tour Assistant at Herculaneum main entrance and get kitted out with your glasses before listening to a quick introduction to how to use them. Then, begin your tour guided by your Tour Assistant which has been designed by an archaeologist team to show you what life was like in Herculaneum before the eruption. The software of the glasses creates holograms that overlap the existing ruins, showing what the most significant temples, houses, and buildings originally looked like. Cast yourself into the bygone age of ancient life in Herculaneum, walking through the city to feel like a Roman. Walk among the ruins with your small group, and remember that our tour is suitable for people of all ages!"

Relaxed, friendly, informative
Very friendly host. Gentle pace around 2 hours. Very informative. 3d a great option to see the region before the eruption and understand how people lived. We were late due to train issues. Suggest arrive early...

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
FANTASTIC, REALLY RECOMMEND!! The tour was fantastic in every way, the 3D glasses added another element to show how people really lived, the site itself was remarkably preserved and our tour guide Alyssa was absolutely brilliant, she was very informative and went at a very good pace.

VR is a novelty but a welcome one.
The VR is simple but effective. It added a nice dimension to the tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and very personable. It is not a big site and this tour seemed to cover all the basics with an interesting twist.

Herculaneum is a memorable experience.
Overall, this was a great experience. We had a wonderful tour guide, who was very knowledgeable and friendly. Using 3D technology to see rendering of the past was helpful, although the headset around your neck for the duration of the tour is a bit tiring. All that said, we would do this same tour again. Thank you so much!

Herculaneum is fabulous but this tour ruins it
The glasses are barely useful and the recorded commentary with them is not only brief and boring but only available at a few fixed points where the glasses are activated. The tour guide merely shuffles the group from one place to another before telling you to turn the glasses on again. This means that you are whisked past 99% of the site without a moment to appreciate or learn anything at all. After two stops this was obvious, so we handed the glasses back and started the tour again having completely wasted our time spent with the pleasant but useless guide.
Response from the operator: We appreciate your feedback. It's important to clarify that our tours are led by experienced tour leaders who guide participants through various points of interest. The glasses provided are integral to the experience, offering augmented reality reconstructions of the monuments, enhancing the overall tour. We understand your decision to abandon the tour after only two stops might have seemed rushed. However, we believe that continuing the tour could have allowed you to fully appreciate its value.

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.
How much does Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $18 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.
Is Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 19 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Herculaneum 3D Skip the line Walking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Naples?
+
On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Naples?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Naples?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
