What you get

    About this experience

I am a 22 year resident of the Mojave Desert and log over 500 miles annually on foot within Joshua Tree National Park. Over the years and miles I've cultivated an awareness of landscape, ecological systems, and local culture that when contextualized by the trail becomes a narrative experience I'm eager to share. I landed in Joshua Tree after dropping out of college in 2001. Back then you arrived by chance or a friend of a friend said you had to check out the rocks, feel the energy, and camp under the stars. I fell in with the gathering characters, an assortment of dirtbag climbers, avant artists, practical new age visionaries, and entrepreneurs...an amalgam of identities that would go on to create the image of the High Desert that is so coveted today. I am legally permitted to guide within Joshua Tree National Park and happy to host you. I know my stuff and I want you to know it too.

    The most wonderful experience

My guide Hollis was an absolute delight. She was incredibly knowledgeable and seemed to be able to gauge my energy level and adjust the hike accordingly. I enjoyed this immensely and it was worth every penny.

We spent a half day with...

We spent a half day with Travis and loved every minute of the hike! Travis is a true expert in everything about Joshua Tree. He knows the trails, and chose one that suited us perfectly. He knows the history of the park, its geology, its plants, flowers and animals. He’s engaging and fun. It was like taking a masters class in one of the most beautiful places in the US! We highly recommended this tour!

An unforgettable experience with Wondering Majove

Our half-day Joshua Tree hiking trip with Travis at Wondering Mojave was absolutely exceptional. Travis expertly navigated the park, leading us away from the crowds and into quieter, less-traveled areas that truly showcased Joshua Tree’s unspoiled beauty. Every turn revealed incredible vistas, from sweeping desert landscapes to striking rock formations, and it felt like we were discovering hidden gems most visitors never see. Travis’s knowledge, thoughtful pacing, and clear love for the Mojave made the experience both relaxing and inspiring. This hike was the perfect balance of adventure and immersion, and it gave us a deeper appreciation for the park’s natural beauty. If you’re looking for an authentic, memorable Joshua Tree experience, Wondering Mojave is the way to go.

Hike Joshua Tree with a true Expert

Travis was such a fantastic guide. He is a person who lives and breathes Mojave/Joshua Tree. It totally blew my mind how knowledgeable he was about everything....climate, plant life, animals, history, geology, etc. He was fascinating. The passion he has for this part of the US stands out all through the tour. Our tour was leisurely and not intense, based on our preference. Travis will tailor your tour to whatever you want to do and see, and at what kind of intensity level. Highly recommend Wandering Mojave with Travis.

Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Palm Springs.

How much does Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park cost?

    +

Prices start at $335 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Palm Springs usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park take?

    +

Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Palm Springs is not rushed.

Is Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 80 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 122 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Palm Springs, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park?

    +

Around 43 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Palm Springs can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Palm Springs and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Palm Springs within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Palm Springs?

    +

Palm Springs sells architecture tours through midcentury neighbourhoods, Aerial Tramway trips up San Jacinto, Indian Canyons hikes, Joshua Tree stargazing and windmill farm runs. Shade, water and pickup points separate a good desert tour from a rough one. On Outty we rank every Palm Springs experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Bank Heist Escape Room Game for Private Group, Palm Springs Modernism Architecture & History Bike Tour, Vampire's Lair Escape Room Game for Private Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Palm Springs?

    +

November to April. Book dawn or evening slots in summer. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Palm Springs?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
