What you'll see and do
This tour can start in the morning or the afternoon (please let us know which time you want to depart). You'll leave Siem Reap and we'll drive you the 40km southwest of Siem Reap to the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake to Mechrey Floating Village. Here, you'll see how around 300 families live their lives on the water. These ethnic Khmer families make their living from fishing, farming, shops and tourism. Along the way, we'll stop to try some deep fried insects, look at a rice paddy field with birds, cows, and buffaloes. We'll also stop to see a lotus farm and a duck farm. When we reach Mechrey Floating Village, you'll see floating houses, a school, restaurants, fish farm and crocodile farm. In the cooler season, you'll also see many different species of birds here. We'll take a car because the road is very bumpy and dusty. The price includes the boat ride and entrance fee.

Interesting insights
Another great trip with Bunpheng and his driver, this time to the floating village. Everything was carefully planned by our host to ensure we could fit the trip into our tight schedule, but at no stage did things feel rushed. Bunpheng is an intelligent and charming man, and kept us entertained throughout our trip. We would certainly recommend this as an interesting insight into a unique local lifestyle.
Response from the operator: Hello, We are grateful to hear you have enjoyed your trip with us. We are appreciated you take time to leave us a feedback. We hope to you again soon. Have a nice day Warm regards Bunpheng

Very informative and impressive
I was the only participant in the trip to Mechrey. My guide was Bunpheng. He could explain very well and I learned a lot about the Tonle Sap system. His English was also really very easy to understand, so communication was problem-free. The boat ride through the "floating village" was impressive. The drive down towards the lake was scenic very nice. Can absolutely recommend this tour, but also my guide!
Response from the operator: Hello, Thank you so much for writing to us. We are very much appreciated your feedback. Stay safe and healthy Bunpheng

Great time witnessing lifestyle of people in Mechrey Floating Village
We were a group of 3 adults + 1 teenage + 3 children. We requested for afternoon tour, and it was nicely arranged with pickup from hotel at 2:00pm. The air-conditioned van was clean and was already stocked with cold bottled water for us. Our tour guide, Mr. Bunpheng Chan, spoke very fluent English. As soon as we got into the van, he started telling us about the background of Cambodia, village we were about to visit, and other interesting true stories. He was very knowledgeable. About half-way to the village, we stopped by a stall to have a look at the fried insects. I tried a cricket, and didn't feel uncomfortable at all. If you're not eating any, it's still fun to watch anyway. We reached the riverside after the 45min car ride. We then got into one of the motorised tourist boat (with roof). Life jackets were available. Then came the fun part. We went along the river, watching how fishermen did their magic, and then the village (floating homes, school, playground, shops). The people there were very friendly. Because our tourist boat was big, we didn't get onboard of the village. Watching and interacting was fun already. The boat ride was about 1 hour long. The fun part of afternoon ride was seeing the kids paddling their way home from school.. some on their own, and some were on "boat school bus". We got back to the riverside, and the tour guide kindly entertained our special request of dropping us off at the city center instead of hotel.
Response from the operator: Hello Kevin, How are you ?. I hope you and your family are well. Than you for writing to us, which is very helpful. We are glade to hear that tour guide and driver were able to help you so. And we are very pleased to see you had enjoyed the tour with us. Thank you for travelling with Angkor Doors Warm regards Angkor Doors Team

Great tour, great guide
The floating village of Mechrey is a wonderful place to get a sense of a floating village without the tourists and including all the interesting features. The tour was only a half day trip, so we could spend time in the afternoon on other things. Lonn - the perfect guide, a happy and English speaking Cambodian - took us to a local market and insect-tasting as well. When booking, ask for Lonn Thou!
Response from the operator: Hello Sir/ Madam, We hope you are well. Thank you for wring to us with feedback which we are very appreciated. We are glade to hear that you have enjoyed the tour with us. Thank you again for traveling with Angkor Doors. Warm regards- Angkor Doors Team

Why this scores 57
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.
How much does Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $29 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.
Is Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half Day Floating Village ( Mechrey) & Tole Sap Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?
+
On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Siem Reap?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
