Walking tour of Forbidden City
We did a 4 hour tour with Cactus, who was a great tour guide, with loads of information while also keeping our two children engaged and interested. Nothing was too much, and she helped us with restaurant recommendations for the evening. A big thanks to Cactus for making our first day in China a big success!

Wonderful experience
It was a very cold Beijing winter but our tour guide, Cactus made it a very memorable experience. She was very insightful and knowledgeable in regard to the complicated Chinese Dynasties. Cactus was very helpful and empathetic to our needs. She was fluent and articulated. Getting to the meeting point was a breeze via the well organised Beijing Metro without the traffic jam. We would recommend the tour as a highlight to the city of Beijing.
Response from the operator: Hi DMN626, We are so glad that you are interested in Chinese history and enjoyed this historical tour with us! We believe you had leant a lot of knowledge of China ancient dynasty from Cactus and feel her warmth in this cold day:), right? We do hope you can visit Beijing again! See you next time! Don’t go to the Forbidden City without a guide!
I had no idea how vast the Forbidden City is! Wow. It’s overwhelming in its size. Without our guide, William, we would have been wandering around. He knew exactly where to go. And shared amazing historical insight. It helped my children (11,12) really embrace it! This is not just “one more temple or pagoda” as your kids might say. This was just incredible. Thanks, William! We will definitely be recommending you and this tour to our friends.
Response from the operator: Hi Maryluxes, Thank you so much for recommending Trippest to your friends as their China travel guide! William is good at Chinese history and culture, he knows many hidden history of the Forbidden City. I think he had told you much about that! We are so happy that you are so interested in Chinese history, and hope this tour has inspired you to come to Beijing again! Best, Trippest customer-care team

Excellent tour for first-timers
A great way to discover the highlights of the Forbidden City and immediate vicinity. Visiting in a small group is really enjoyable (so many big crowds around). Our tour guide was super knowledgeable, well prepared and able to also answer the more unconventional questions in very good English. He also directed us to a nearby Hutong to have lunch after the tour. Strongly recommended! Thank you for an amazing visit.

Very crowded visit of the Forbidden City
This was nothing to do with the guide Mr Xiao Yuan. He is great and friendly, and shared quite a bit of history for the place (just need to give guests more photography time). However our mood was affected by the huge crowd of mainland tourists. I wouldn't want to describe further. Once in a lifetime to see the amazing palace... if only if it is more relax.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery cost?
+
Prices start at $49 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Half-Day Beijing Walking Tour of the Forbidden City Heritage Discovery start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
