A really nice half-day in Addis
We only had half a day in Addis Ababa before moving on, so we decided to book a city tour. We weren't expecting to see everything in such a short time, but it was actually a really nice way to get a first feel for the city. Our guide Haile was great. He was very friendly and easy to talk to, and we never felt like we were just following someone around listening to a standard tour speech. We could ask him anything and he was happy to explain things, especially when we were curious about Ethiopian culture and everyday life. We probably asked more questions than we should have 😄, but Haile was always patient with us. Our driver Ashu was also very good. He was friendly and drove carefully, which we appreciated, especially with the traffic in Addis. He was also helpful whenever we needed anything. What we liked about the tour was that it didn't feel rushed. Obviously, you can't really discover a city like Addis in just a few hours, but we got to see different parts of the city and understand a little more about its history and daily life. We had time to take some photos, stop and look around, and just enjoy being there. For us, the best part was probably the conversations with Haile. Those little explanations and stories made the places we were seeing much more interesting. It felt more personal than simply going from one sightseeing spot to another. We only spent a short time in Addis, but we came away wishing we had stayed longer, which I think says something about the experience. Thank you Haile and Ashu for looking after us and making our short time in Addis so enjoyable. We really enjoyed meeting you both and would happily recommend them if you're looking for a local guide and driver. Nothing overly fancy — just a relaxed, interesting and genuinely enjoyable few hours in Addis. Exactly what we needed. ❤️

Addis Ababa is great
We had a wonderful half-day city tour of Addis Ababa with Danakil Depression Tours. The tour was a great way to experience some of the city's most interesting and lively areas in a short amount of time. We explored Merkato and Piazza, where we experienced the busy streets, local shops, markets, and everyday life of Addis Ababa. We also visited Entoto, which offered beautiful views over the city and a completely different atmosphere from the busy center. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the tour, giving us interesting information about the history, culture, and daily life of Addis Ababa. The tour was well organized and made good use of our limited time. I would definitely recommend Danakil Depression Tours to travelers who want to explore Addis Ababa and get a taste of the city's culture, history, and local life.

A Great Half-Day Introduction to Addis Ababa
We had only half a day available in Addis Ababa, so we decided to take a city tour instead of trying to explore the city on our own. It turned out to be a really good way to get a first impression of Addis and learn more about Ethiopia’s history and everyday life. Our guide picked us up from our hotel in the morning and explained the plan before we started. The tour was well organized, but it did not feel overly formal. We could ask questions and spend a little more time at the places that interested us. Our first major stop was the National Museum of Ethiopia, where we learned about Ethiopia’s long history and human origins. Seeing Lucy, or Dinkinesh, was definitely one of the highlights. The guide explained the history behind the exhibits instead of simply walking us through the museum, which made the visit much more interesting. We then visited Holy Trinity Cathedral, one of the most important religious and historical landmarks in Addis Ababa. The architecture was beautiful, and our guide explained the significance of the cathedral, the royal connections, and some of the history surrounding the site. It was especially interesting to see how religion and Ethiopian history are connected. After that, we drove toward Mount Entoto. The drive itself was interesting because the scenery changes as you climb higher, with eucalyptus forests and cooler air. From the mountain, we had a beautiful view over Addis Ababa. It was also a nice break from the busy streets of the city and a good place to take some photos. We finished the tour around Merkato, where we got to see a completely different side of Addis Ababa. Instead of museums and historical buildings, this was the busy, everyday side of the city—shops, people, small businesses and lots of activity. Having a local guide with us was helpful because the market can feel overwhelming if you are visiting for the first time. What we appreciated most was that the tour gave us different sides of Addis in only a few hours: history at the museum, religion and architecture at the cathedral, mountain scenery at Entoto, and everyday city life around Merkato. It was a busy half day, but we never felt that we were simply being driven from one place to another without explanation. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We also appreciated the flexibility when we wanted to stop for photos or ask additional questions. For anyone with limited time in Addis Ababa, especially if it is your first visit, we would definitely recommend doing a half-day city tour. You obviously cannot see everything in a few hours, but it gives you a much better understanding of the city and leaves you with a good idea of what you might want to explore more deeply on your next visit. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and informative introduction to Addis Ababa, and a great way to spend a few hours before continuing with the rest of our trip in Ethiopia.

We had a wonderful half-day city tour of Addis Ababa and really enjoyed the experience from beginning to end. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and very easy to communicate with. Even though we only had half a day, the tour was well organized and gave us a great introduction to the history, culture, and everyday life of Addis Ababa. We visited some of the city's important highlights and learned a lot about Ethiopia's history, traditions, and development. Our guide explained everything clearly and gave us plenty of interesting information about the places we visited rather than simply taking us from one attraction to another. We especially enjoyed learning about Ethiopian culture and seeing how traditional life and modern Addis Ababa come together. The transportation was comfortable, the timing was well managed, and there was no feeling of being rushed. Our guide was also flexible and happy to answer our questions and adjust the pace according to our interests. We appreciated the local knowledge and the personal attention throughout the tour. For travelers with limited time in Addis Ababa, this half-day city tour is an excellent way to see the highlights and get a genuine introduction to the city. A Vibrant, Exciting, and Perfectly Guided City Escape
My partner and I only had a short amount of time, so we booked the Half Day City Explore with Danakil Depression Tours, and it was a beautifully curated experience.
