The Candy Cane Mountains are shale mountains in the Khizi and Siyazan districts of Azerbaijan, part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range. The 'Candy Cane Mountains' were originally dubbed so by travel author Mark Elliott in his guidebook 'Azerbaijan with Excursions to Georgia'. The mountains' colors are produced by groundwater that alters the oxidation state of the iron compounds in the earth.

Besh Barmag Mountain (Beşbarmaq Dağı) — one of Azerbaijan’s most iconic natural landmarks — rises dramatically near the Caspian Sea, about 90 km north of Baku. Meaning “Five Fingers” in Azerbaijani, its unique shape makes it a striking sight along the highway to Quba. Khinaliq

Since 2007, Khinalig has been declared an ethnographic reserve. On the way to Khinalig, you can often see eagles flying overhead, wild horses galloping along the banks of stony rivers and clouds descending so low that sometimes they can even be touched. Wonderful experience!
We went on this tour 2 weeks ago, and highly recommend it. Our guide, Russell, was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. It was a long day, but well worth it. The transport was comfortable and safely driven. We had an excellent lunch in Khinaliq village, and the views along the way were spectacular.

I cannot emphasis enough on how great of a tour this was. Despite a long drive, the commute did not appear that way as I was either glued to the window or listening to the fascinating history taught by our incredible guide, Leyla. This is a must do tour and if you're lucky enough to have Leyla as a guide, you are no doubt in for a wonderful day. 11/10.

Xinaliq and Candy Cane
The tour was great. We went up 2000m+ from the sea level to see natural beauties, and an isolated village to learn about their culture and got hosted for a very tasty meal. The trip guide Mamed was very helpful and informative through the trip, thank you!
