Trip worth taking but with another company

Mongolia is beautiful and the Gobi is worth seeing, however, this tour operator fell far short of our expectations. The good was the sights and the driver & car, the bad was: - we booked it as a private tour, however, we ended up travelling with 5 other people sharing one guide between two cars - the guide spoke good English but otherwise knew nothing. No information about the sites we visited, and as she was a very timmid and immature 18 year old, it was like travelling with a child. - the plans kept on changing and communication was poor. Apparently we were supposed to head off one day earlier but the company owner forgot (?!) to tell us, and we instead had to spend the first day catching up with the group who departed the day before us. However, he didn't tell us this and the driver spoke no English so we couldn't ask why we drove past what should have been our first stop. - we were told by our guide that we would be returning one say sooner with the other car, cutting our trip short by on day. I messaged the company owner to confirm and he said that was the case. A few days later he said we would have one more night and had mixed up the dates. - the city tour could have been better organised and guided. We started a few hours later than planned, and while the guide and company owner told us some interesting facts he spent almost all his time on the phone and was completely uninterested in conversation - almost not a single question asked to us but spent time scrolling social media. We also had no plans after lunch except for a show starting at 5pm, and had to kill time at a pub. It would be much better if an activity had been planned after lunch before the show. - I reached out before the tour asking if there was anything we should bring with us, and didn't get a reply. I would have been great to know we should have brought water (as there was none in the car and the first stop was 5 hours away), toilet paper, towel etc.

Response from the operator: Thank you for the valuable feedback. Given the severe fuel shortages and many other circumstances beyond our control, there were a few minor issues. However, from our company’s perspective, we believe that we provided all the services adequately. Nevertheless, we will make an even greater effort to provide better service next time.

Stunning beauty of Gobi and the steppe with a wonderful guide

Amazing landscape, stunning views, hassle free just hop on a 4 wheel drive and the tour would handled the rest. Wonderful guide, worth the price.

Response from the operator: Thanks

A Personalized Gobi and Okron Valley Tour

Yadamsuren Demberel is very hands on when it comes to arranging a tour. I got a personalized tour to include a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it Yadamsuren included it in my itinerary. Got a memorable travel to Mongolia with Eternal Gobi Tour! Highly Recommended!

Response from the operator: Thanks

Terrible Experience with Yadamsuren Demberel

Misleading and poorly managed private tour — multiple service failures We booked what was confirmed as a private tour for 3. What we got fell significantly short of what was promised. > Undisclosed guide changes and additions: At midnight on arrival, our guide Yadam informed us — without prior notice — that an assistant guide would be joining and travelling in our car. The next morning, a different female guide showed up in Yadam's place, and we waited 30 minutes by the roadside for the assistant guide to arrive. 2 days into the trip, Yadam reappeared and swapped back with no explanation. These changes were never communicated in advance. > Incompetent guides: Yadam struggled to converse in English and was reluctant to answer questions or offer any commentary — we had to repeatedly prompt him for basic updates. The assistant guide never introduced herself, spoke minimal English, made no attempt to engage with us, and behaved more like a fellow tourist than a guide. Yadam spent most of the trip attending and catering to the assistant guide rather than us. > Accommodation failures on 2 nights: Near the Yolyn Am Valley, our accommodation appeared to be either unbooked or cancelled — no explanation was given, and we visited two ger camps before finding a place to stay. For our city night, accommodation was cancelled at the last minute and we were placed in a substandard motel with no lift. > Private tour became a merged group: Despite pre-trip confirmation that this was a private tour, we effectively travelled alongside another family throughout. Whenever both groups were together, Yadam walked ahead with the other family rather than with us. > City tour cut short: The itinerary stipulated a 9am start for the city tour. Yadam pushed this to 12pm, claiming the tour ‘doesn't take long’ — without consulting us. We eventually went oh another day tour ourselves. The Gobi desert is incredibly beautiful with stunning landscapes, and our driver Jaga did a fantastic job - he tried to engage with us even though he did not speak much English. But overall with all of Yadam’s shenanigans, this was a frustrating experience characterised by poor communication, last-minute changes, and a lack of professionalism. We would not recommend this operator.

Response from the operator: 1. Regarding the city tour, it was scheduled to start at 11:00 AM and continue until 6:30 PM. When I arrived with the car, they told me that they did not want to go with us and that they would instead visit the city with their Mongolian friend. 2. The tour was organized as a private tour. I had planned to personally accompany them as their guide, but on the first day I was unable to go because of the fuel shortage. I went to meet them on the second day instead. 3. They seemed genuinely happy and satisfied with the Gobi tour, so I find it quite disappointing that they chose to write such negative comments right before leaving Mongolia. 4. Regarding the Japanese-speaking assistant guide, I will make sure to provide her with additional training so that she will be better prepared for future tours.

Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ulaanbaatar.

How much does Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils cost?

+

Prices start at $890 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ulaanbaatar usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils take?

+

Plan for about 144 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ulaanbaatar is not rushed.

Is Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 22 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Ulaanbaatar, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 72 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 144-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ulaanbaatar can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ulaanbaatar and add a light layer if any part of the 144-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Gobi tour Mongolia with dinosaur fossils start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ulaanbaatar within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ulaanbaatar?

+

On Outty we rank every Ulaanbaatar experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Genghis Khan Statue+Terelj Park+CamelRide+Eagle, A day trip to Terelj National Park and Statue of Chinggis Khan, BEST 5* Chinggis Khaan Airport UBN Ulaanbaatar Transfer Taxi 24/7. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ulaanbaatar?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ulaanbaatar?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
