Engaging tour in a fun city

I recommend this ghost tour as it’s a unique way to learn interesting stories about the city and history! Our guide was fun and attentive to her group. We’ve been on several ghost tours, and felt the tour matched many great tours we’ve been on. Thanks!

Good material but difficult to hear

The guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the ghosts of old Amsterdam. She was also willing to set a pace that matched the oldest couple in the tour group. My minus one star was for understandability. Some of the stops were in noisy areas and she frequently dropped her voice for dramatic effect and turned toward the building she was talking about rather than towards us. It would be much better with the radio earphones used on other city tours.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your thoughtful and balanced feedback. I’m very glad you enjoyed the ghost stories and that the pace of the walk worked well for everyone in the group — making sure everybody feels comfortable during the experience is very important to me. I also really appreciate your comments about audibility. Most of the tour takes place in quieter atmospheric streets, but there are two stops in the busy city center where ambient noise can sometimes become a challenge in the evenings. The storytelling style of the tour is intentionally designed to feel intimate and immersive, without the use of radio headsets or amplified audio, as many guests — and myself included — prefer a more authentic atmosphere during a ghost walk through old Amsterdam. That said, your feedback is absolutely valuable and a good reminder for me to stay mindful of positioning and projection at those busier stops. I was also a little surprised, as no issue with hearing was mentioned during the tour itself, and throughout the experience I regularly encourage guests to ask questions or let me know if anything is unclear. I’m also currently developing a self-guided audio version of the tour narrated with my own voice, for visitors who prefer exploring the stories at their own pace with earphones. Thank you again for helping me improve, and I hope you enjoyed wandering through the darker side of Amsterdam.

Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Amsterdam.

How much does Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam cost?

    +

Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Amsterdam usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Amsterdam is not rushed.

Is Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 40 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Amsterdam, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam?

    +

Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Amsterdam can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Amsterdam and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ghost Walking Tour and Dark History in Amsterdam start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Amsterdam within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?

    +

On Outty we rank every Amsterdam experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Local Guide and Small Group, Guided Bike Tour of Amsterdam's Highlights & Hidden Gems, Amsterdam: Luxury Canal Cruise including Cocktails & Snacks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Amsterdam?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
