    Super interactive and enjoyable!

We had a wonderful time learning how to cook some Sri Lankan curries at Gale Fort Cooking class through Chilli Dragon Spices at Elite Cafe. It was great to be involved with each step of preparing the curries. At the end we had way too much food for just the two of us to consume! The dishes were a bit too hot for us and I would recommend only using half the amount of chill. Ordering a Lion beer to take the heat of the dishes was a good idea. I look forward to cooking the dishes when I return home, with a little less chilli.

    Family cooking class

We are very happy we found Shahira - it was a very special cooking experience in her apartment in Galle. We got to meet her family and share the meal we cooked with them afterwards. There was no special equipment, so we’ll be able to apply the knowledge back in our home kitchen. Shahira explained subtle nuances and techniques that will make our home curries better - and we did the cooking ourselves, it was a very hands-on class! We cooked several curries, chicken and vegetable ones, two types of rice, and mango and date pickle. Highly recommend this class if you want to learn or sharpen your skills in Sri Lankan cuisine cooking.

Delicious food, but could be more hands-on

We really enjoyed the cooking class! The food was delicious and the information shared was very interesting. However, we expected it to be a bit more interactive. Instead of everyone having their own cooking station, we mostly helped with some chopping here and there rather than fully cooking the dishes ourselves. Still, it was a lovely experience overall.

Response from the operator: Thank you for the feedback! While individual workstations and a 90-minute timeframe make for a fast paced and challenging session, we strive to pack in as much value as possible. Our goal is to give you a true taste of Sri Lankan cuisine and the confidence to recreate these curries at home. We’re so glad you joined us, and thank you for feedback.

A must cooking class for cooking enthusiasts

A must do for those who want a real Sri Lankan family food experience . Shahira is a wonderful cook that enlightens you with her knowledge of all the traditional spices of Sri Lanka and how to use them , not just on cooking . What a blessing to Have found this cooking class and be so warmly invited into Shahira’s home. What we loved was we did the cooking and she simply guided us. And then we sat down for a feast. We did a few cooking classes in Sri Lanka and they were no where as good as this as we did the cooking not watching someone else do all the work !!!

Galle Fort cooking class: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Galle.

How much does Galle Fort cooking class cost?

    +

Prices start at $38 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Galle usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Galle Fort cooking class take?

    +

Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Galle is not rushed.

Is Galle Fort cooking class worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 67 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Galle, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Galle Fort cooking class?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Galle Fort cooking class suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Galle Fort cooking class?

    +

Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Galle can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Galle and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Galle Fort cooking class start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Galle within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Galle?

    +

On Outty we rank every Galle experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full day / Half Day WildlifeAdventure in Yala-National-Park, Special leopard & Elephants safari - Yala - 04.30 am to 11.30 am, Sea waves sri lankan cooking class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Galle?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Galle?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
