Your next first stop is to the town next to the Airport, Santa Cruz. It is a rewarding place for a short stay. The pebbled beach is lined with large palm trees and the colourful fishing boats lay between them. The market hall is famous for its fresh fish, unimaginable fruit and vegetables. There is a large tiled frieze at the entrance depicting the fishermen. The white attractive church is from the sixteenth century and is well preserved.

Praia de Machico
From Santa Cruz we head to Machico Machico´s bay was the first place where Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira landed when Madeira was discovered. It has an uncommonly shaped valley, which looks as if a balcony overlookes the sea and the mountains, in a municipality with great abundance in water. The sugar cane crops and its mills activities made it become very important for Madeira’s economy until the 17th century. The eastern side of Machico bay is dominated by Pico do Facho a 320 mts (1050 ft) a high peak. It was named after the beacon (facho) that used to be lit here to warn residents of approaching pirates

Buyer beware
Beware buying fruit from Funchal fruit market, some stallholders are keen to increase their profits by trying to increase the weight and choice of fruit. You need to insist of what and weight you wish to purchase. Certainly look but take care buying. Good place to visit.
Response from the operator: Thanks for your feedback. While we don't include the Funchal market in our tours, we appreciate your helpful tip for fellow travelers, it's always good to stay aware when shopping in busy tourist spots. Glad you still found it an interesting place to visit!

Dump Market
All went well till a driver took us to a dump called Market. He announced we need to spend an hour there. A dirty dump there poor Portugal’s come to have a drink and greasy snack in the field of mud covered with plastic roof. Filthy environment. Highly recommend to avoid this experience whatever tourist company offers. Bad!
Response from the operator: Hi We always aim to deliver a great experience, and we are gutted when we don’t meet expectations. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We will use the feedback to make us better . Regards Susana

Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $34 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Funchal : Sunday Market - South East Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
