Fabulous Tour of the Eastern part of Madeira
Another year, another amazing tour with Felipe and his biker crew Tino and Nuno. These three and their motor bikes and sidecars offer a wonderful experience and for us what is the highlight of our stay. All of the drivers have extensive knowledge of the island and help us to understand the history and beauty along the way of a very carefully curated tour. We saw parts of the island we didn’t know existed. Along the way there are plenty of opportunities to take photos, stop for a poncha or a loo break if you need it. The ride is great fun and suitable for most ages. I heartily recommend Madeira side car tours and already look forward to another trip with them next year!
Response from the operator: Dear Aberjoodles, Thank you so much for your wonderful review and for choosing Madeira Sidecar Tours once again! It was a real pleasure to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure. We're delighted that you enjoyed exploring the eastern side of Madeira and discovering hidden gems you didn't know existed. Creating unique experiences that showcase the island's history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes is exactly what we love to do. Felipe, Tino, and Nuno will be thrilled to read your kind words. They are passionate about sharing the beauty of Madeira, and it's incredibly rewarding to know that their local knowledge, carefully planned routes, and enthusiasm made your tour such a memorable experience. We're also glad you enjoyed the scenic photo stops, the opportunity to taste a traditional Madeira poncha, and the relaxed pace that allows you to truly experience the island. Knowing that our sidecar tour is the highlight of your stay means the world to us. Thank you for recommending Madeira Sidecar Tours to anyone looking for a unique way to explore Madeira. We truly appreciate your continued support and can't wait to welcome you back next year for another unforgettable sidecar adventure. Until then, safe travels and see you again soon! Forget the crowds : This is the way to see the amazing sides of Madeira
If you are looking to escape the ordinary and skip the crowded tourist buses, Madeira Sidecar Tours is the way to go for it. From the moment we were picked up at our hotel, we knew we were in for a special treat. Riding in a vintage sidecar is such a unique and authentic way to explore Funchal and the surrounding cliffs; it felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. The wireless helmets are a brilliant addition because they allowed us to hear our guide’s passionate storytelling and local history in real-time, making every turn even more interesting. We liked how the experience was 100% private and tailor-made to our pace, taking us down narrow roads to hidden viewpoints and charming coastal villages that big buses simply cannot reach. The ride was incredibly safe and comfortable, and the sidecar itself serves as the perfect prop for some of the most stunning photos we’ve ever taken. It wasn’t just a sightseeing trip; it was a true journey filled with style and personality. We cannot recommend this private experience enough for anyone wanting a VIP perspective of Madeira.
Response from the operator: Dear Edgar, Thank you for the wonderful feedback about Madeira Sidecar Tours. We’re thrilled you enjoyed discovering the hidden viewpoints and coastal roads around Funchal from the sidecar. It was a pleasure sharing the beauty of Madeira with you. Hope to see you again soon! One day in Madeira
I would highly recommend this activity. We were visiting Madeira for one day whilst on a cruise. Filipe contacted us directly to inform us he would meet us off the ship. As we only had one day he adapted the route so that we could see the highlights of the area. Our safety and comfort was a priority to Filipe, he took photos for us and then emailed them to us later on the day. Filipe shared lots of interesting information about Madeira and pointed out lots of things that we wouldn’t have noticed otherwise. He dropped us off in the old town and gave us instructions on how to get back to the ship, and ensuring that we would see the best of the old town area. When we are next in Madeira I will contact Filipe again to arrange another tour, the motorbike and sidecar is a really fun way to get around.
Response from the operator: Dear Wendy_T, Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review! It was truly a pleasure to welcome you to **Madeira Island** during your cruise stop and to provide you with a personalized sidecar tour experience. I’m delighted to hear that you enjoyed exploring the highlights of Madeira, especially with the route adapted to make the most of your limited time ashore. Ensuring your safety, comfort, and overall enjoyment is always my top priority, so it’s fantastic to know that you felt well taken care of throughout the tour. Sharing the history, culture, and hidden details of Madeira is something I’m truly passionate about, and I’m glad you appreciated discovering places and viewpoints you might not have noticed otherwise. It was also my pleasure to capture those special moments for you and to guide you through the charm of the old town, making sure you experienced the very best before returning to your ship. A sidecar tour is indeed a unique and fun way to explore Madeira, offering unforgettable views and a truly authentic adventure. I look forward to welcoming you back to Madeira Island for another exciting motorcycle and sidecar tour in the future! Best Regards, Filipe Freitas

Great experience and fun way to see Funchal
We really enjoyed our sidecar tour with Luis. He picked us up right at our cruise ship and he gave us an awesome customized tour of the area. The motorbike was in great condition and we felt very safe and comfortable. The helmets allowed us to communicate and hear all of the fascinating things that Luis was sharing with us. Luis was a great guide and a great guy all around. It was an honor and a privilege to spend our time on the island with him. We hope to visit again for a longer stay.
Response from the operator: Dear Tammy_T, Thank you so much for your wonderful 5-star review! We’re thrilled to hear that you had such an amazing sidecar tour experience in Madeira Island with Luis. It’s fantastic to know that you enjoyed the customized itinerary, felt safe and comfortable on our well-maintained motorbike, and appreciated the clear communication through our helmet system. Luis truly loves sharing the beauty and culture of Madeira, and we’re glad his passion made your visit so memorable. We’d be honored to welcome you back for a longer stay and another unforgettable adventure exploring the stunning landscapes of Madeira by sidecar! Best Regards, Filipe Freitas

It is a fun and fantastic way to see the sights.
This is the 2nd time we used this company to see the sights a bit of a different way. We had asked for Tino again for our guide. He is an asset to the company. Again, his knowledge was great, and the sights he took us to, wow, the views were stunning. Also, using the bike and sidecar helped stay ahead of the tour buses, so no big crowds to contend with. I couldn't recommend this company enough, and I will definitely use it again if ever back in Madeira. (A tip is to make sure you have a jacket or coat with you) Thank you again, Tino, for a very enjoyable few hours. Hope to see you again.
Response from the operator: Dear Alisonm800, What an absolute pleasure to read your review — and to know that you chose us for the second time! We’re truly grateful for your trust and delighted that you enjoyed another memorable ride with Tino. He’ll be thrilled to know his knowledge and passion helped make your tour so special once again. It’s wonderful that you loved the stunning views and the freedom of exploring Madeira by sidecar — the perfect way to stay ahead of the crowds and see the island from a whole new perspective. Thank you for your warm words, your great tip for future guests, and your amazing recommendation. We can’t wait to welcome you back for your third adventure with us. Best regards, Filipe Freitas

Why this scores 63
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Funchal.
How much does Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views cost?
+
Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Funchal usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Funchal is not rushed.
Is Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 28 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Funchal, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views?
+
Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Funchal can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Funchal and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Funchal Old Town & Christ the Redeemer Tour – East Coast Views start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Funchal within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Funchal?
+
On Outty we rank every Funchal experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Jeep Tour Amazing West to Natural Pools -Full-Day, Porto Moniz, Seixal, Fanal Forest, Cliff Skywalk in Open Roof 4X4, West Tour-Fanal Forest & Porto Moniz Natural Pools Small Groups. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Funchal?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Funchal?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
