What you'll see and do

  1. Take a ride on the traditional Bamboo Train, a bamboo platform laid over 2 sets of wheels on a single track. In the old days this was used to transport goods between Battambang and Phnom Penh and was a typical mode of transport for farmers and villagers. Today, it takes you through the beautiful countryside to a little village you can explore on foot before returning to your starting point.

  2. Wat Banan Temple

Climb the 365 stairs to marvel at Wat Banan, an Angkor era temple which sits on top of a hill close to the Sanker river. Banan is seldom frequented by tourists and outside of Cambodian holidays it is likely that you may be the only visitor.

120 minutes here · Admission included

  3. Phnom Sampeau

Scale the side of a mountain leading to the 'secret bat cave' just before sunset where you will sit atop the mountain waiting for the millions of bats located inside the cave to awake. Marvel as this seemingly never-ending stream of fruit bats fly out of the cave and off into the countryside for their evening meal.

180 minutes here · Admission included

  4. Battambang Bat Caves

The Bat Cave shows an amazing spectacle at around 5 pm each day - thousands of bats leave their cave as dusk falls, beginning their nocturnal hunting. A black streak stretched among the sky, vibrating with sound waves, before dispersing on the horizon illuminated by starlight. A steady stream flying out for around 45 minutes then back to their caves.

My guide Han made this...

My guide Han made this day such a special trip. He is so insightful and shares his stories and knowledge of Battambang. He also shares so many little extra stops that are so interesting. The one thing I will mention is that you will be exhausted at the end of the day.

Great day in Battambang

We were only in Cambodia for 2 days so we wanted to see as much as possible. Mr Han showed us a lot in the area of Battambang and we were able to try local food and fruit. The temples were beautiful, and aside from the highlighted landmarks we made a few more small stops along the way. If you want to get the most out of your day in Battambang you should do this tour!

Don't leave cambodia without doing this tour!

What an incredible tour, everything was very organised and laid back. A full day tour might seem daunting but it is very much worth it. Ask to have Mr Han, he is incredibly knowledgeable and very passionate about the history and cambodian culture. He shares his own personal stories from the communist pol pot period and offers insight as to what it was like to live during that dark period in Cambodian history. The tour takes you across the cambodian countryside, up mountains and temples. it truly was an amazing experience and well worth setting aside a day to do. Being a private tour you learn alot more about many aspects of cambodian culture and history that wouldn't learn in a big group. I cannot recommend this tour enough.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Siem Reap.

How much does Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset cost?

+

Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Siem Reap usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset take?

+

Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Siem Reap is not rushed.

Is Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 16 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Siem Reap, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset?

+

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Siem Reap can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Siem Reap and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full Day Tour from Siem Reap - Bamboo Train, Killing Cave & Sunset start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Siem Reap within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Siem Reap?

+

On Outty we rank every Siem Reap experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Small-Group and Guide tours, Angkor Wat full Day 'Small Group with sunset & Tour Guide, Angkor Wat Sunrise or Sunset Tour with Guide from Siem Reap. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Siem Reap?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Siem Reap?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
