What you'll see and do

1. Former French Concession

   Your tour guide will meet you at your hotel at 09:00 a.m.. Then, we will transfer to Former French Concession area and start the highlight tour. Known for its tree-lined boulevards, the former French Concession is a stylish neighborhood boasting a charming mix of Chinese and European architecture. Walk along quiet alleyways, absorb the botanical beauty of a French-style park and admire the intricate facades of villas and apartments built in the early 20th century and discover the famous figures that have resided within. Then, we will walk around Former French Concession area, such as Wukang Road and Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts.

2. Wukang Road

   Wukang Road is only 1.17 km long. There are 21 outstanding city-level historical buildings and 22 district-level cultural protection relics. Each house and its detail show its stories and history. All of the buildings on the road are in European style, and while walking on Wukang Road you'll get the sense that you have arrived in Europe. Wukang Building is the most famous building on Wukang Road. The building, shaped like a giant vessel, was the most famous English-styled building in Shanghai back in the 1930s. The Wukang Building was designed by Hudec, the well-know architect.

3. Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts

   Built in 1905, it was originally the residence of the Director General of the French Public Directorate. After the liberation, it once served as the temporary residence of Mayor Chen Yi. The three-story mixed structure is a French Renaissance garden residence. The plane and the facade are axis-symmetrical. The south facade is set with double-enclosed open-air white marble steps. It is known as the "Little White House in Shanghai”. Then, we will transfer to Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre and appreciate original propaganda posters from the 1940s to 1990s.

4. Shanghai Propaganda Poster Art Centre

   This is a private museum dedicated to collecting and displaying posters. It contains over 6,000 collections of original propaganda posters from the 1940s to 1990s. It covers chairman Mao’s time and shows the political movements that were taking place during the New China era. It was founded by Mr. Yang Pei Ming who started collecting the posters as a hobby in 1995. Then, we will visit the most famous temples in Shanghai - Jing’an Temple.

5. Jing'an Temple

   Jing'an Temple is one of the most famous temples in Shanghai which is located at West Nanjing Road, the flourishing downtown area of Shanghai. Jing'an Temple is a good place to escape the hustle and bustle of crowds in downtown Shanghai. In the meantime, you can enjoy the marvellous painting and calligraphy by Yangzhou's Eight Eccentric Painters in the Exhibition Hall of Buddhist Relics. An important display of this temple is the bronze bell which was made in the Ming Dynasty. Then, we will transfer to Yuyuan Old Street and enjoy traditional Dim sum for lunch.

6. Yuyuan Old Street

   Shanghai Old Street, historically called Miaoqian Dajie, is an old business street that has a combination of tourist attractions, shops, entertainment and cultural exhibits. It owes its special social attractions and rich commercial background to the fact that the earliest bank, gold shop, jeweler's store, wine shop and tea house of the city were all to be found here. Visiting the old alleys of Shanghai is a great way to discover the traditional culture of this city and experience the real life of the Shanghainese. Then, we visit the largest ancient gardens in Shanghai - Yu Garden.

7. Yu Garden

   Yu Garden was a private garden of the Pan family in the Ming Dynasty. It was the largest and most prestigious of its era in Shanghai after it was completed. Yu Garden is small in size, but it contains all elements that a classical Chinese garden should have. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters all have unique characteristics. The exquisite layout, beautiful scenery, and the artistic style of the garden architecture have made the garden one of the highlights of Shanghai. You can walk to the Zigzag Nine Bend Bridge. Chinese people believe that the number nine symbolizes auspiciousness. Walking across the Bridge is said to bring people good luck. The Bridge leads to Mid-Lake Pavilion Teahouse, which is the oldest teahouse in Shanghai. Then, we will visit the famous Shanghai "Fabric Market" - South Bund Soft Spinning Material Market.

8. South Bund Soft Spinning Material Market

   The famous Shanghai "Fabric Market" is home to hundreds of tailors and seamstresses, and is the city's prime destination for bespoke clothing garments. Most people who come to Shanghai will recommend the South Bund Spinning Material Market as a must-visit place. There you can choose a variety of fabrics and then work with a tailor to customise the clothes you want. Once you enter the market, you can see almost all the shops are using several languages to write their billboards as 80% of the customers are foreigners. “Tailor” is the most prominent feature, not only satisfying Chinese and foreigner's requirement for tailored fit clothes, but also bringing them unique clothing characteristics. Then, we will explore local Bird And Flower Market to experience original Shanghai lifestyle.

9. Bird And Flower Market(South Xizang road)

   The tour will start by the crossing of Tibet Road and Fangbang Road, in one of Shanghai’s many antique neighborhoods, also known as the cricket market. Its full of flowers, bonsai, birds, fish insects and crowds of people searching for whatever their hearts desire. It is a good place to experience part of a local’s life kind of life. Afterwards, enjoy comfortable transfer back to your hotel. Wrap your memories and say good-bye in your hotel.
